Newbie from Huddersfield
« on: November 03, 2013, 11:02:30 pm »

Hi just to introduce myself just got back into the hobby after a break of 25 years
Got my first boat out of the loft after all this time a Forties Shore by PBM and never been on the water yet its in a sorry state having been moved from one loft to another so that will keep me busy putting it shipshape.
As a mater if interest I purchased this kit as at the time I was working offshore and saw the vessel doing a supply to the rig
The next project is a Avenger from Metcalfe mouldings
Happy sailing
Bill

New kit arrived one week ago
So far spent about ten hours working on the hull. The recommended motor is no longer available so bought a torpedo 800 but it is to big in the diameter so ordered a longer prop shaft to move the motor forward.
More to follow.

Thanks for your private email Billy.

With your permission, I would like to throw it open to the members.

He asks what other motor would be small enough to fit the hull as the 800 type is too large.  As it's a tug i would recommend a powerful motor with lower revs but am not that familiar with the types available these days.

I throw it open to you all for suggestions

Cheers

don't think a 555 would be powerfull enough............try fitting a double universal Huco coupling to your motor propshaft......it will allow the motor to be raised a little at the back end ( end furthest from the out shaft)and for you to fit the original shaft in place.

I have to do this arrangement with ALL  my lifeboats and there is very little extra drain on the battery because of mis alignment in a straight line. then you could use the original 800 motor which would give ample grunt for the boat.

have a look at the pictures in this link on post 922 shows the double joints clearly.

I even use 2 different diameter motors on that one, lol
