thanks bob ,i have been down that route allready with Bryan  from m.m.m. and he cannot get that type any more as he has moved onto the new T motors ,
and at £45. each i just cant justify the purchase ,yet.
on a possible up side there is an advert in this months M.B. for a pair of 555's which are worth a try (page 77) .and they should fit directly in the mounts i have .
What would you think about the speed 700 turbo bb's , maybe a bit too fast??

I have a mate who uses 700 BB Turbos in scratch built 4 feet fast launches.
They plane well!!
In yours they will give fast electrics a good run!!
There are other motors that would do, in fact Model Motors Direct specialise in multi-pole low rpm, low drain motors.
I must admit that Car Blower motors do seem rather overkill for 40mm props.
You could try the Model Slipway geared motors for the Aziz.
2 x Motors for 12 volt £53-00.
With decent brass props you don't want to go above about 5000 rpm, that will give you plenty of power.
Out of interest did you run her on the Johnson motors?

no the first thing this morning i whipped them out and put them to one side on the "dont go there" shelf i also have a pair of mfa como motors on the way f.o.c free of charge ,from a friend ex stock ,i think they are 540-1 so i will see which work the best ,them or the ones from m.m.d.
i will try them some time in the future possibly in a large hull fishing boat i have (gm33) from models by design ,but thats another project for the future .

Just a quick thought.
Lots of modellers get caught up in the size and weight of the model.
I only consider the driveline, the motor and prop combination.
As a rule of thumb, most scale models will perform OK with Deccaperm Motors. THESE REV AT ABOUT 2750 RPM.
550 MOTORS ON A 3:1 reduction g/box will rev at just over 3000 rpm and a lot cheaper.
There is always an alternative!!

never realy looked at Deccaperm motors or any other type of geared motors Bob as i dont like the sound they make ,thats just me  i have a southampton RTR and it has geared motors and i think they sound horrible  :P.but thats my opinion  :) also our chaiman has a large tug with geared motors and i think they are Deccaperm .

Graupner do some big slow revving motors, but about £40-00 a time!!
Your best bet is Model Motors Direct, but not 555's or 777's

Bob

Hi,

I just looked at those johnsons motors on ebay and they look to me like the motors fitted to cordless drills (used to have to repair the bloomin' things). Best left well alone in model boats.

Hi,
One of our members goes to the local breakers yard and he has found that Rover heater blower motors are easy to get off, cheap and are very powerful.
The motor amps are low as well on 12V
These motors look much like the MMM motors that I saw on the stand at the IMS at Leamington spa.
He also only pays approx £5 each so one trip gives half a dozen or so motors.
Good luck

Nothing wrong with them.
I have 2x 777's in my Schultze Class Minesweeper.
On 6 volts underpowered, on 12 overpowered, and running on 35 mm props, plus they get quite warm.
I gotta say though car gear rather heavy for turning 40 mm props, I prefer them on 50mm plus on direct drive.

Hope they are ok, post the results Daz.
1 question though, are the 540's rated for 12v, as most are for 7.2v?

I fitted 555 motors from Model Motors Direct in Graemsay a couple of years ago on 12v and was very impressed good turn of speed and run time, i restocked at Alfold the other week and brought some Buhler ppb2's as well. I've been fitting buhlers for some time and never had any problems as Brian at MMM says its better to have a big lazy motor than a small high revving one.
