Prawn Trawler "Dorothy-Anne"
« on: November 05, 2013, 01:28:32 am »

Hi there, this model "Dorothy-Anne" was built in 1993, I named her after my 2 Grandmothers, did the majority of the build while working in the Gulf Of Carpentaria, Northern  part of Australia, most of our fishing (or prawning) is done at night , so a large % of the work on the model is done during the day before and after grabbing some sleep.
Photo's 1 & 2 Started the model while at home prior to leaving for the up coming prawning season, she isn't designed from any particular  vessel I drawed the plans up of a double chine hull ( as at the time we had a double chine steel hulled trawler), I used 2mm ply Areldited onto 7mm ply frames, then used cotton cloth and resin to seal the inside of the hull.
Photo  3 & 4 Topsides and deck attached.
Photo  5  holding the model all primered up....

Thanks Peter, I will come down to Ballina this Sunday to meet up with you, to answer  your question Derek our boat licenses in Qld always start with the letter F  and MGM   stands for My Grand Mothers   :D (I suppose its a bit corny) but as I wasn't building a particular boat with it's established Fishing letters, and it was named after my grandmothers I thought , why not... ok2 ..
