My build so far! Our Lass variant
« on: November 11, 2013, 01:09:35 pm »

Hi everyone! Decided to post up some pics of my our lass hull! But obviously isn't gona be same as our lass 2! I plan to make the hull same colour as GREEN ISLE, built in 2000 in Portugal for kenning brothers of mallaig and was then sold to greencastle co. Donegal! Still have a lot of work to do to the hull yet! Not looking forward to the railings!! lol but a very enjoyable build!! Had sea trails last week, few wee probs but all is sorted now! She can fair steam against the surge of tide down our local harbour! I have a working 3 drum winch installed! Not sure of a finish date for the model but I'll keep the pics coming up!

That, sir, is one of the neatest electrical installations in a model boat that I've seen for a long time. It should be compulsory for all members to print it out in A3 size and fix it to their workshop wall for inspiration.
BTW have you seen the build log of Gareth Jones' Shamarah on the Model Boats forum? It's scratch built but very similar to Our Lass. You might get a few ideas from a good look through it. http://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=45819

I was just about to say the same, Dave..........I am humbly embarrassed when I look at the spaghetti that I put into mine.

Like the boat as well.............look forward to following this.

Looking good Dave. :-))

Hullo Cavanblue....even from 22,000 km away the electrical tidiness is apparent  :-))
1. is the bow thruster the requirement for the 6 Vdc battery?
2. what will the small centrifugal water pump be used for?
Looking forward to more build images .....Derek

Thank you guys!! Really appreciate it!  :-))  Just looked at your link for shamarah Dave! That build is just awesome! I just don't think words can describe how much effort and time was put into building it!!
I mocked up the electrics first before i installed them! All from action electronics! I didn't install the sound module as i thought the geared motor would do that for me! I will keep the posts coming as the work progresses!
Yep it sure is Derek! Water pump will be used to simulate hydraulic cooling pump! I'm going to install the overboard and sea inlet for it tonight!
Anybody know where I could get a good radar motor?
Hopefully get the trawl gear finished next time I go to sea! Thanks again guys

Cav....simulated cooling water on model vessels is always an eye catcher  O0 ........some of those gear pumps have acetyl gears & some have brass gears....& yes some are true centrifugal....now if you are running in salt or brackish water,,, :((  you may need to pump some clean fresh water into the suction side to get rid of the rubbish.... salt  <*< or what ever at the end of each days running
Aquarium type shops have a multitude of relatively inexpensive brass or plastic manifolds & fittings for water transfer & aeration of fish tanks..........you could consider a fresh water flushing loop circuit using the installed pump within the vessel itself  %) ......
If the pump is to run continuously ....it may be happier, cooler & less current draw on 6 Vdc also .......Derek

Cav....here is an image of an 4.0 mm bore tube size aquarium dual ported isolation air valve for less that $3.00 AUD including air parcel post to your door
The construction is listed as stainless steel ...although the example [4 valve version] I received is nickel plated brass which is perfect for my application
There are no seal elements ....the individual elements are 90 degree conical plug valves ....which means the heat from soft soldering connection tubes is not an issue....
They are rated as leak free to 5 PSI....on air which means  +++ greater on water .....
Using the example below......you could have the sea water chest suction in one leg & an onboard fresh water flush/purge tank on the other leg........so simple .......Derek

{-) ...no offence meant Cav...... :embarrassed: ...but do you have bath tubs in Ireland now?....... ;) ....certainly my Irish forbears  [first fleet convicts] did not have a bath tub in the stone walled thatched roof dwellings  :o
McGherkin......not sure about Plymouth  :o ....but in OZ......10 minutes out of the salt water ....& the water is gone leaving just salt.......& salt build up in model rotating pumps is a NO NO.......Derek

That's a while ago :-) of course we do!! I'll just put it I'm my swimming pool when I come home with it again lol  I have salt away solution I use to use for flushing out my jet ski so a few micro droplets of that will get rid of any salt :-))

Well this is my first update in a long time!! Building time was very difficult over Christmas! Ended up changing the motor to cem 900! Now it's 100% glitch free!! Still a lot of work to do to the deck and lower deck area and wheelhouse interior! I thought the railings were gona be hard to put on but actually turned out quiet easy! Just have to give them good clean now with scotch bright ! Working three drum winch is also installed! Not sure on purchasing the noise generator???
Hopefully with in the next couple of months when the weather gets better I'll be having some fun the the boat down our local harbour! Have the twin rig trawl nets and doors and clump made up too!! They look pretty impressive behind her so also can't wait to get towing them! Hopefully more updates shortly!

Cracking build, definetly one of the best that I've seen. Might have to shorten your port warp to get the gear square though :-)) .
