Thats it Maralinga

Bit of a senior moment with HMS Malabar which was the RN base in Bermuda  :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed: .

Wasn't Woomera the rocket range and Maralinga the nuclear test site?.

Yep, Maralinga's 500 miles West of Woomera, where the "scientists" and support staff lived and worked.
The rocket launch sites are just out of town, to the west, and the ranges run NW from there.
cheers

As vnk says......."Yep, Maralinga's 500 miles West of Woomera" ....but in OZ that distance is only a hop...step & a jump on a Sunday afternoon drive......  {-)  Derek

A cautionary note to members:

For any of you who are both nuclear engineers AND model boat enthusiasts, it is strictly prohibited to test a 10 Kiloton device (1 Megaton at 1/96 scale) at Wicksteed 2014 to ascertain the effects on similar scale warships on the lake.

I assure you Martin WILL notice.

Company I once worked for who made specialised clamps, were asked to quote for a clamp to hold on the fibreglass dome of a portable missile tracking unit.  Part of the spec was that it had to be able to survive the blast from a 10K ton explosion.  O0

Nice to see our neighbours across the pond like to irradiate everything in the process of finding better yeilds and systems, over 1000 tests! I know maybe not all tests are for the destruction power that they can produce but still, a lot of activity.
