BBC 1 Sunday 9pm.

Yesterday: South coast defences.

Coming episode (3/4): Western Scotland: Crinan Canal, the Highlands, Tarbot, Mount Stuart House.

My opinion of the programme couldn't be in greater contrast to that of Neil Midgley (and most of the Daily Telegraph readers who commented). Yes, it was a "hotchpotch" of items but it worked for me, revealing interesting snippets at each port of call.

I found this series quite informative & entertaining:

Timothy Spall at Sea series

It informed me that Spall is a moaner who blames others for the predicaments that he creates for himself. A pity, until I saw this series, I quite liked him.

Its a great informative programme, not least because you can get to see details of ships/boats for real instead of from books and other research. For me the moving camera catches items from differenct angles showing detail that may be missed in a still picture. The last episode below decks on Victory and swinging from a bosun's chair to show the plate and rivet detail of Warrior come to mind.

Saw the 'Victory' one on catch up and enjoyed the quality of film and the subjects.

Unfortunately the commentry was so   " 50's "  it started driving me nuts.   %)
