Many moons ago, in my teens, I bought this and ran it with a little Enya 1.5cc motor. It has languished in various garages and sheds over the years. Having rekindled my interest in RC boats, I thought I might dig it out and convert it to electric.
It's 26" long and weighs about as much as an empty crisp packet! I'd like a fair turn of speed without going bonkers. So, I'd really like advice on a suitable motor (probably brushed to keep the cost down 'cos I'm a cheapskate!), prop and battery pack, etc. It currently has a small 2 blade metal prop, probably 30mm.
After talking to a couple of people, I was thinking around a 550 motor but is it worth going a little bigger for a reserve?
I don't have too much space for batteries and will probably have to build up a two row pack to get them in. Might just have space for a 2x4 layout to get 9.6v.
Any pointers would be most welcome since I really don't yet have a feel for what motor sizes/types suit what applications.
Rgds
