2.4ghz newbie, help/info needed
« on: December 03, 2013, 03:47:37 pm »

Hello all,

I'm just getting back into boating after 5 years. Please can someone bring me up to speed on the new digital 2.4 systems. I use to use 27 & 40 meg for my boats.

If I go and buy a second hand 2.4 set will the servo leads just plug in like my old sets did. Also if I have more than one boat can I use the same transmitter and buy another receiver.

Sorry if they sound like daft questions but I'm well out of the loop on this new stuff at the moment, any help or info would be most appreciated,

Regards

Ian

:-)) Yes you can use the same tx for other boats, just have to bind each new rx to the tx and the servos just plug in like 27hz/40hz quite simple really, any problems let us know,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-))

Thanks for the reply Ray. Think ill just get a used or maybe a new Futaba 6ex set. That should do all I need then.

It's great that you can turn up at the boat club and sail without having to wait for channels to be come free etc, so much easier.

Thanks Ian

Planet TX's/Receivers or Spektrum TX's/receivers are  good low cost sets, you'd only need to go secondhand if you want full range Futaba gear.
Planet receivers are around £15 for a spare , Spektrum one's (genuine) are around £20 , I believe there are some cheap ones available for those . . .
I use Planet (T5) only supposed to have a range of 100 metres but WELL exceeds that , you MUST keep your aerial above the waterline , 'cause the frequency doesn't penetrate water . . .

Thanks for that info Bill. I've always used futaba gear previously, I'm happy to spend a bit more to buy a really good set that will last a good few years.

I've got a new still boxed futaba sky sports set in the loft that I used once or twice, any idea what it's worth. Might as well sell that and put it towards a new digi set,

Regards

Now that lots of people have gone over to 2.4 that leaves lots of spare frequencies for us using 27 or 40 megs.  O0 O0 O0 .

Perhaps we should point out that unlike 27 or 40 meg, you can't mix manufacturers with 2.4 UNLESS the receivers are manufactured to work with the transmitter - e.g Orange Rx's work with Spektrum Txs. I believe there are comaptible Futaba Rxs also.

:-)) Hi,Ian,once you get used to 2.4ghz you will not want to go back to the old systems,I have planet 5 and spectrum sets and both are pretty good, the planet is easy to use and a little cheaper so you don't have to spend a lot of money, saves all that trouble with peg boards, crystals and long antennas, hope this is some help,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-))

Depending on the "Futaba's" you have, and the costs, there are conversions to 2.4   available to suit them

There are also threads about such conversions on this forum and worth reading :-)) :-)) :-))
