To say you are packing the details in is an understatement. How is the crew coming along?

Hi Danielle, how do you find using the artist paint, was looking for myself, its far cheaper than spray paint

We are still doing interviews for the crew! Just joking .... my wife hasn't done them yet.  %)

The artist paint is really nice but the following things can't be done ....
- Mixing colors is very difficult ---> Impossible for big quantities
- Using the colors out of the tube without water or alcohol will be a little bit more like a paste than a "normal" color. Be careful one can see every stroke you made.
- It is not 100% waterproof ... I ended up putting varnish on everything

I used one tube of dark blue for the hull ... price is around 8.90 CHF/tube

New week new parts in work ....
The booms ... yes there are two booms on this trawler. They where not always in use and all picture of the original show them stored on the upper deck. But I think its a nice detail anyway! They are only in use if they fish with 4x small bottom trawls with heavy iron scrapers at the front. I have no idea how they are called in english. I think its some sort of dredging.

Parts (this time I used copper!) ready for assembling.

... and finished.

Glued on the boat.

Time to make the connection plate...

Had some wooden dowels in the right dimension ... two pieces of ABS will do.

And finished on the boat. I made the connecting axle with a aluminium rivet. Fast and secure!

View from the top ....

And from the stern ....

Lovely Danielle! That deck is so realistic even down to the damp staining near the boxes.

Amazing work. I like the booms.

Thanks a lot!!!! Never knew I had made damp stainings near the fish boxes!!!!  :-))

PS: Actually its so dusty on the working deck and on some places I had to reach inside and that created the damp patches ....  ok2

Well today I did not have much time. Just put on some more color .... now it looks like I can varnish the wheelhouse, roof, doors and the booms tomorrow.

Instead of varnishing things today I made the holders for the rescue rings.

All parts ready to be glued together.

Glued together ....

Holder works well ...

With the orange Color .... missing the cords on the rings. Will do them tomorrow ...

As the orange color had to dry I started on the seat for the captain ...

Ready for coloring .... actually the glue wasn't set 100% so I had to use a piece of wood to hold it upright for the foto.

That is great work on the life preserver racks, It is nice when a model does what the real thing can do, like miniature hinges or tank tracks.

Lovely job on the chair as well, quite wel upholstered for comfort  :D

Today I started with the placement of the 3 on/off switches. The big one does the power on/off for the 2 batteries. The smaller 2: one for the radars and one for the lights.

I wanted to put them into the Box where the gas for the kitchen is stored .... enough space for the switches but cramped place to get there with bigger fingers.

Second place is under a palett to the right behind the wheelhouse .... not enough space!

Looking at the picture of the original .... I decided to go for the space under the massive mountain of nets/ropes in the middle behind the wheelhouse.

Here it is ...

The box is made of ABS plastic. The plate under the switches has the usual EUR-Palett size of 120x80cm. I may do a 120x120cm one to have a little bit more room inside....

Have a nice weekend and I will work again next week!!!

Off we go! The palett was done quite fast.

I started to adapt the 1:700 geared micromotors into the housing of the radar.

And so will it look when its finished .... fog horn is waiting to be glued on.

Have you lots of different coloured cords to make the rope bundle with? It will add some chaos to an otherwise tidy and well laid out model  :}

No more naked radars .... I made (with help of my wife the PC wizard) these nice Furuno logos for the radars.
Printed on paper and glued to the radars with normal white glue. E little bit of varnish will make them waterproof.

Then I had to replace the broken top mast ... it was my fault ... the material used wasnt strong enough. I made the new one with 2 tubes for strength.
Mad quickly and reused most parts but the ones holding the lights.

Time to build the spotlight on deck. 4 big ones for the net gantry and 2 smaller ones on the wheelhouse.

I tried to get some paint on these plastic tubes to simulate the lights on the top mast (no function).

Those radar logos add so much realism to the model. I love the mast and did wonder what the coloured tubes were and thought you might have disembowelled marker pen ink tues for a minute but assume you tinted clear plastic tubes.

I tried to get some paint on these plastic tubes

Are the tubes clear plastic ?

...if so, you could try inserting painted paper or maybe shiny plastic inside the tubes. That way, the outside of the tubes would give the impression of "glass" lenses. :-)

Ray.
