Never mind the s@@@ with photobucket ... I started to add the windows. The result is ok but not 100% perfect. Hope till I do the front ones I will be better.

Everything ready for action. I work at the dinner table as the work is rather clean and not too dusty.

The window sits flush with the outside! So it must be adapted to hold by itself in the opening. Always mark UP/L/R or you may end up with a lot of scrap windows.

That how I get the canopy glue (drying clear) to the window/wheelhouse walls.
Always secure the window at the ouside with some paintertape.

After the glue has dried take away the tape nd do the same at the outside. You'll get cramps in your hand with this fiddly tip on the glue.

It looks ok ... not too bad ... 2 done 9 to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok2

Good progress Danielle, and why shouldn't you work at the dinner table from time to time? Its more social I think unless you are combining GRP work with aerosol spraying and then rightly one should be banished to another place preferrably outside :O)

You're right .... as I have all tools and machines in my workspace I do only some minor work at the dinner table like painting fine lines and the windows and maybe the electrics.

Finished the windows today!

Hope to get the Loredana finished in time. Off I go and glued the roof on the wheelhouse.

Thanks a lot Ken!  :-))

Today I started painting the bow .... not an easy task because it can ruin all you work you have done with painting ....

After 1h covering up everything neccessary ....

I did start painting. First 2x with dark blue and the white was shining through. So I painted once with matte black. Let it dry for 30mins and added 3 layers of dark blue again. Perfect!

The result is well .... stunning. Never did I paint something so complicated so nicely.

Awesome paint job Danielle! A decal could not be sharper.

The tip to use a matt black base coat for the blue is good. I read recently that to make yellow cover better, add a little grey to it. It dulls it down a small amount, but gives it base.

Thanks a lot!!!!  :-))
You're right about using another darker/lighter color beneath the actual paint. Grey under yellow worked well!!! It seems as I always have the wrong color as base.

Today the Loredana got its name and registry number ...

I shoud have had the whole stuff plottered but I couldn't find the right font for it. So I went for the one and only font that is avaiable in my shop.

A masking tape gives me the position of the registry number.

Name on the stern ....

... and the ones on the bow .... I also tried to have the seahorse on the bow ... yes it looks like one but its crooked ....  %)

I think she is becoming Elegant Danielle. If you are thinking of a next project, I would build a yacht on that hull or one like it because as you said a few months back, the Italians do make an attractive hull even for a work vessel.

You're right ... nothing beats an elegant fishtrawler from italy.  ok2

My next projekt in 1/16 scale is ..... Princess Loane a french fishtrawler. The original has a steel hull but I will convert it to a wooden one. At the end it should be a mix of this french hull with italian accents. I have pictures of a similar italian trawler .... so we'll see the result in 1-2 years time. Plans are ready to be modified.

She will be named "MADY JEANNE" in honor of my mom who died in 2015...

 :o  :o  :o

What.

That is the beauty of timber the various grains and effects because it is a natural product.

To do what you suggest, namely, hide the timber, is to plaster the model with so much paint it may sink!!!!!!

Very strange comment as you can see the "wood structure" through the paint on real ships/boats, so why would a model be any different. %% %% %%

Having some wood working experience/aptitude I think it is a very good result but everyone is entitled to their opinion. O0 O0 O0

It's all about scale!

At 12" to the foot the woodgrain would be somewhat evident, but at smaller scales the grain should be be less evident, and in some scales, non existant.

As a professional model manufacturer of Model Railway kits in smaller scales, timber, as much I like it, can be a real problem, and grain needs to be eliminated totally in most patternwork for a realistic finish.
Timber used in coachwork is generally a planed finish, then painted, so grain is rarely seen. It also depends on the timber used, as some timbers are very boney and very hard to sand to a smooth even finish.

If it looks alright from 1 meter distance it is alright!!! Have you ever seen a ship with such shiny flat surfaces as most modellers have? No .... this does not exist in reality (only maybe on super xxl-yachts).

Please build yourself a model fishtrawler without exact plans with no professional modellers skills and limited time and money .... I know from experience that such models I do have built catches a lot of attention.

So you have been 14 years in the belgian fishing industry?
Then you should know by experience that no fishtrawler made in wood or steel has a smooth shiny surface like you suggest I should have on my model ....  ok2

Phew! I am pleased your electrics worked. Even if they gave you trouble, you do have lots of access to fix it.

I do now tremember that you were building the Princess Loane as I remarked on the impressive sheer of the gunwales.

Keep it up, you are doing great  :-))

 :-)) :-)) :-))

Today I first changed the reduction of the rudder .... now it has some more movement to the left and right.

I started with the wiring of the LEDs. First the ones in the wheelhouse .... works fine! I will tint the LED with Red and Green.

The I did the same with the position light on the mast .... toplight and white over green (trawling) are not working. Red over Red ist working but I do not need it ... I'll find a solution for this problem tomorrow. Actually I do need only the top light.

This all made me nervous and I decided to do a quick test of the LEDs of the working deck .... next pictures show the result!!!

FANTASTIC!!!!!  :} :} :}
I was really afraid that something wouldn't work ... no way to fix anything without literally tearing apart the ship.

 :-)) :-)) :-)) Maybe I should place a piece of fish inside the boat ... would create a very nice smell over the time ....  :}

finished the electrics 100%!!!! Everything is now working as it should. Made a new toplight and get rid off all the wires I do not need anymore on the mast.

Wheelhouse light is way too shiny .... wil correct that tomorrow.

Then I quickly made the 4 guy ropes out of rubberthread. They have a hook on one side so if I lift of the wheelhouse I can detach two guy ropes. I also added the italian flag. Sadly not the right one but better than no flag. I added some fenders and an old tire for the picture...

Now the following parts have to be done till saturday evening ....
- Ladder to the wheelhouse roof
- put some clear plastic sheet on the spotlights
- Radar detection thing ... looks like two pyramides ...
- Two ropes missing on the netwinch
- Tone down of some of the LEDs
- put her in the bathtub to see if she is still swimming or will sink faster than the Titanic!!!!  ok2

If there is spare time left ....
- 2 Trawldoors
- 1 Fishing net
