Re-painted the hull red and it looks as the deformations have stopped.

Today I prepared my new toy ... its a Profiform 320 machine. It cut and bends alu, steel, brass, copper up to 1 mm. Costs a forunte but works just fine!

I also started to make the rudder. The rudder will be detachable from its axle.

Awesome machine Dannielle! I nearly bought one a few years back and probably would have used it a dozen times in a decade but it will revolutionise your model engineering potential.

I can see you making live steam boilers and the like now  8)

Your right ... I have 3 live steam plans at home that I could build. All logging-railroad steam engines ...  ok2

Some more work done to the rudder ...

Soldered together...

Added the lower axle ...

The konical shap holds the rudder in place but it also helps whe I want to detach it from the main axle .... I'll explain that later ...

And then I could try it out on the hull ....

The ribs 5 of them each side will be added next week ....

Excellent Danielle. You are as good whittling metal as your are wood  :-)) Re Locomotive boilers, these were used in early steam powered vessels until specific marine boilers and the like came into use, so you could combine a locomotive boiler with a vintage ship!

No I wouldn't do a steam ship .... its not my favorite kind of model. But a steam loco or tractor would be much fun!

I nearly finished the ruder today ... quite difficult to solder everything on. Next step will be the connection to the ruder axle which has to be detachable.

Nice work on the rudder, bet there were a few swear words and scorched fingers LOL. The hull seems to have stabilized again, few. nice paint finish re-applied

You can be justifiably proud of that effort on the rudder - really smart looking, that is. O0

Thanks a lot you two!!!!  :-))
I said a few beeeeep words but no scorched fingers ... I used a wet towel around the ruder all the time.

The connection to the axle is made with a simple hex screw ... no fancy solution but it works just fine. The washers should simulate the connection system used on the origial ship.

Have you a mill as well Danielle? If so, Hussar! Your engineering work looks splendid.

Thanks a lot you two!!!! :-))

Yes I have a mill and a lot more nice machines ....  ok2

Made the net roller holder ....

Then I fitted the motor (geared 6:1), the propaxle and the connection axle-motor.

And to finish the day I filled the hull with 2kg of iron pellets. I need some 6-8 kg ballast to get the hull down to the waterline. As I don't know how heavy the superstructure will be I fitted these 2kg ballast.

Excellent. I wondered what had happened to your hull for a second. It looked like a load of wood dust and was expecting a comment to such.

Limiting the quantity of ballast will help you keep it a bit lighter for moving it, good idea  :-))

Thanks  a lot you two ... I used 3kg ballast sofar. I may need another 3-5kg to get the hull deep enough into the water.

I wasn't happy with the quality of the hull color so I redid everything ...

Color samples I mixed ... the upper left one (ROST+...) was used.

I like this color as its not too red ...

I like it. The colour you have made is quite like red oxide primer but not too drab.

I like it. The colour you have made is quite like red oxide primer but not too drab.

I just added some black and cherry red to the original paint (rust).

Now I started to paint the hull dark blue. Bought a lot of different colors till I got the right one!

I paint only part of the hull at the moment. because later I can't turn it upside down anymore. So I'll finish the paintwork before I build the rest of the boat.
