Mark, I sanded them flush to the hull. I leave them the orignal ABS plastic white color.

I am impressed that you have managed to keep the initial coats of paint pristine in the time you have been working on the top hamper and bows! I would have scraped and dented it to bleepery by this point.

Looking fab Danielle.

Thanks a lot to you all!!!!

My next build will be another italian fishtrawler with wooden hull. I want to build it as closely as possible to an original hull. I even want to have the nail holding the planks rusting at the end for an authentic weathered look. I visited a few shipyards (one of the the last one building woodern trawlers) and have some books about shipbuilding in italy. I think I will build in 1/16 or even 1/10 scale. I have 3-4 hull designs ready to be built. I wont build another model without at least a decent hull plan showing all sections. It may even have a smoke simulator who should puff out black smoke like a real diesel.....

The hull stayed fixed on its base all the time. I managed to have 1-2 scratches and a big dent at the bow. But some color and putty have taken care of the damage.
There are some 6-8 coats of paint and another 4 coats of varnish.

Black Smoke is a bit difficult to make it seems.

Len.

It should be possible using black smoke powder (the same stuff used by movie and fire brigades) .... just have o invent the machine to ignite it in small portions ...  %)

Today the new dark blue color got its varnish. I also got my order of different LEDs.

Can I use the LEDs in series? +---LED---LED---LED---LED---LED--- -  .Like 5x3.1V = 15.5V. Batterie has 12V (or a little bit more after recharging it). I think it should work?!

I would not advise it . The is nothing to regulate the current . For 12v use between 750 ohm and 1 k ohm resistor 1/4w or 1/8w on each LED. Wire them up in Parallel.

Theree should be no problem using these LED's in series as the supply voltage is lower than the maximum voltage . There should be no need for any resistor as the LED has its own small resistance. There are 12V LED lamps made up of four LED's in series with no resistor used.

Thanks a lot for your informations! :-)) I'll decide later about the LEDs...

Today I started the netwinch...

The drums and brakes are made of different kinds of plywood.

Assembled everything together just to see if it looks ok ... placement of the drums will be adjusted to the real measurement later.

More work done ... I made a drawing to get the space evenly distributed .... looks very nice .... and at the end some color. Coloring has to be done before everything is glued in place.

Dirty sticky fingers .....  ;)

Tryout of everything done today ....

Supports glued in place!

Placed it on Deck to check it out ... I could have made the drum diameter a little bit bigger ....

Most of it will be invisible due to the upper deck!

So not only does the deck obscure the winches, but the designers put covers over them as well! Tut tut, they never think of us model makers!!!

When hauling in with any type of winch, there is [or should be <*<] a natural human instinct not to stand in direct line with the pull rope or wire

This is the prime reason that inboard & top safety covers are mounted as shown

You're right ... a winch is a very dangerous item!
Luckily most details are not visible and so do not have to be fabricated. Thanks to the safety covers.

More work done ... the lower part can be glued on place only after everything is painted at the inside!

The winch covers are there for 2 reasons , 1 is health and safety for the crew the second is to help keep the underside of the shelterdeck clean , when your running off the warps shooting the gear a LOT of wet mud/crud gets thrown up off the barrels ( normally ended up having yellow oilskins looking like I'd stood behind a car stuck in mud !! )
