I take my hat off to all fishermen especially in foul weather. That winch assembly looks much better in the dark blue Danielle. Lovely  :-))

Thanks a lot  :-)) :-)) :-))
I think today there is a lot done for the safety of the fishermen. Sadly the death rate is still too high ....

BTW I cut the away the front part (cable direction holder) and refixed it some 5mm away from the reels and 8mm lower on its base ... pictures will follow later.

Hi Danielle, I've been following the build of your latest model and as usual, I'm in awe of your attention to detail !
In your pictures I see a metal (s/steel ?) block or blocks to hold gluing pieces at right angles etc and thought how handy they were to have for building. I have tried to guess what name these would come under to find a source, but no success !

Any help please ?

Mike, I use a simple piece of Aluminium. 5x10mm. Bought it from a local metal shop. It was in the box where you can buy the small pieces left over from big project at a little price. I also use 90° angles from my local hardware shop.
Hope this helps. If you have a steel/iron plate you also could use magnetic welding angles ...

I wasn't happy with the whole assembly. So I cut it in half and reglued it together 4mm to the left and 8mm lower. Now I think it looks much better.

First layer of dark iron color.

2 parts made of wood ...

Finished parts

Final layer of silver color.

Some details added ... wont do more because they are not really visible ...

Finished net winch on deck ...

Thanks a lot Mike ...

One near Fareham ... maybe they have some scrap pieces .... scrap metal dealers could also have what you are looking for.

I use these, handy, heavy and fit for purpose, maybe a bit pricey but can be sourced cheaper on thief bay.

Today the second launch of the Nuova Loredana in the bathtub. I had to check the weight and the stability in the water. The ship is a little bit heavy at the bow ... I will have to add 2kg of iron shots in the back part. together with 2pcs of 12V batteries (@990g each) the ship should lay exactly level in the water. Only a little bit (4mm)  over the waterline. I can live with that. Its a beauty in water and it will be hard to give her away (selling it).
Building the boat as heavy as possible was never a problem. She stays in water as stable as the Cornelia Marie! Even with the gantry and other weights at the top she is not top heavy. Now I can go forward and go on with the built!!!

It sits well in the water Danielle, you can't beat a bit of weight in the model to avoid that 'toy duck' bobbing out on the lake. Only drawback is if the car park is a long way from the lake !

Solved the aluminium block search by the way. Found an outfit with a range of offcuts on Fleabay - 4 inch by 3/4 inch bar, £9.70 free postage. If anyone interested will post link

Good news Mike!!!!  :-)) :-))

Time to place the batteries. I thought there would be a nice small 12V/6Ah battery (like the 6v I use) in the shop but no .... so I bought two smaller ones with 12V/2.3Ah. They fit much better becaus they go to the left and right of the motor.

First one ready ...

Second one ready ....

3 Screws will hold them in place.

Finished .... some rubber strips will prevent the batteries from moving forward.

Time to finish the underside of the upper deck. Everything has to be in place. Openings, pulleys, light, reinforcement etc.

And so you should Danielle, shes a gorgeous boat. Despite your misgivings, the gantry at the rear makes her look quite sleek balancing the graceful bows. Are you sure you are building a Fishing vessel and not a luxury yacht?

I love the winch system  :-))

Having a working drawing also helps to avoid confusion when wiring up - a simple but most effective idea - nice one. :-)

They built one yacht .... the hull is very similar to the one of the fishtrawler.
BTW ... most italian fishing boats have a nicely shaped hull ...

Beautiful. I don't think it would be that hard to convert the plans of your vessel to build a yacht like that.

I know you prefer fishing boat models, but that would almost fit both needs, who ever owns that yacht has a unique boat, it must be the talk of marinas where ever it goes

Your right! Easy to convert the hull for a yacht. I can't find the picture at the moment but there is a yacht in italy where the hull is completely the same as on a fishing boat.

Drawings are ready ... just waiting for the usual kick in the ass to start the work.

John

Yes I will ... the 3x 3.2V LED's (white and green) in series have a 120Ohm resistor und the 3x 2.1V LED's (red) have a 330Ohm resistor. That's what a online LED/Resistor calculator gave as result.
