Danielle...that Planetary 3.0  rope machine for $300 would be great for a modeller for an older sailing ship....it also has a central core string

Is that a 'Fender Sidekick' amplifier? :-))....not sure what  <*< brand of guitar..............

Watching and reading each build thread posting [twice]  O0

I saw the cat as well  and wondered if the whole thing was going to be a cat toy for a moment.

Big Ada: Was that rope walk the one that had holes in the walls to let the tide in and out?

Yes its a Fender 15 sidekick reverb amp. I have a 70ies Framus guitar (German Fender Jaguar type copy), a Epiphone Explorer and a Loog 3-String guitar.

Today I glued the doors in ... glue was not 100% set in the afternoon so I couldn't try and open them.

A picture to show you how the upper opening is working ...

In the afternoon I got my hands dirty .... coloring the white nylon ropes 15m long. I use them as steel cables for the trawl boards.

OK the real dirty work was made in the sink!

Let them dry a couple of hours ....

The ropes for the net where colored with black tea .... be warned it works only if the yarn is white. colored yarn will not take the color!

Looks ok for me ...

Two time 15m of trawl door steel cable is waiting to be spooled on the winch by hand.

1/2h later its done ....

The two ropes that will go to the net are glued to the whinch. The winch itself with all cables/ropes weights around 290g.

Two times 4m rope is on the whinch ... next time I will motorize the whinch!!! Just to get all these meters of stuff on it!

The rope was tinted with the help of some cheap earl grey tea ....  ;)

And I wanted to get these fishboxes glued together .... actually a good idea to have them but a pain to make it.

Its the detail that makes the difference, just like the CM. The ropes are superb, realistic. Earl Grey tea??? thats going in my little black book

Mark, any black tea works fine. Important is that the yarn or rope you want to tinted is uncolored and cotto, linen etc. White works best. I also made one time sandsacks out of baby blue linnen.... they came out in a realstic color.

Do the working doors allow you access to switches or other controls, or is it to allow a viewer to see all the effort you have made on the interior?

I apologise if I sowed the seed that made all that work in the form of these boxes Danielle, still they will add lots more detail to an already ram packed model!

Switches and controls will be hidden by a metalbox where normally the propane tank is or maybe with the two crates holding different ropes.

Here you see the crate to the right and the metal box holding the propane tank for the kitchen. They always cook with propane gas on italian trawlers ...

I made the fishboxes because I did not want to start wiring the LEDs (I hate wiring) ....  ok2

Danielle.......switches hiding under the metal box near the bow is OK, but do not put those safety signs on the box structure as propane bottles must be stored in a container with mesh doors and the structure suitably labelled etc...... Derek

Derek,

How's your Italian, Parla Italiano.

Looks like the Italians handle gas tanks different to Australia, lost in translation??????

The 'box' will probably contain the spread of a fire, particularly if it cuts out one of the three necessary elements of a fire %) %)

No sorry Danielle or RAAArty....my Italian is limited to..... si prega di trasmettere il Parmigiano-Reggiano

...which should be .........'please pass the Parmesan cheese' for my Pizza  {-)

Pretty sure that the storage of refillable/portable Propane gas vessels is covered by IMO  :police: regulations

As I couldn't work on my Loredana the last days (the flu knocked me out of any activiy over the holidays) I post this nice video of building an italian trawler.
The modeller is Salvatore Salcuni. A master shipbuilder at the Rucher shipyard in Manfredonia. I met the owners of the shipyard one year ago. Its one of the last shipyards that builts trawlers in wood.
I must say that building such a wonderful model is really the masterclass of model building. The woodwork of the hull is just like the real thing. For me its the goal I want to reach in the future.

Thanks a lot you two!!!!  :-))

Today I cleaned up the ceiling and all the LEDs .... everything wired together. Hope it will work in the end ...

I glue the LEDs directly in place. Nobody will see it.

Tomorrow I can glue the deck in place!!!!

I did a little side project during the last weeks .... italian fishtrawlers that can be sold in souvenir shops in italy. No shop has nice italian fishtrawlers. They always sell the crabboats from the north sea. So maybe if I can do 100 or more pieces I can earn some money.
This is a prototype missing its fishing net. I wont color them. Maybe using transparent laquer on the different parts. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Like the idea with the LEDs - very neat.

If you decide to go ahead with the idea, run the rigging thread through some bees wax - it helps prevent the rigging going "hairy" O0

Lovely little boat by the way. :-)

Ray.

Good idea with the beeswax ... I didn't knew this trick. Have a beeswax candle on my dinner table that will be used the next time!

If it only funds your boat model making then it would be worth it. I suppose it comes down to the usual costs plus labour plus profit and seeing if the trade and retail prices are feasable. A friend of mine used to make wooden toys and real wax writing tablets for local museums. He was retired but even so, there were some really busy times and I remember seeing his workshop filled with stacks of games and tablets! He and his wife used to use the income as their holiday fund. The model looks attractive  :-))

Regarding the bees wax - forgot to say, use a twirling (twisting) motion as you slowly pull the thread through, this helps to ensure coverage of all the strands. :-)

Ray.

Thanks a lot Ray. I will do it as you said!!!!  :-))

Today is the day ... to fix the gantry to the upper deck and the upper deck to the hull.
The gantry is screwed to the deck. Glue was no option. It has to be bonded to the deck bulletproof.

Wires have been labelled.

Glue at the right places ....

Done!!!!

Some pics of the working deck with sorting tables and fishboxes.
