Sail colour
« on: December 20, 2013, 04:48:09 pm »

I am building the Billing Yawl, which is their sailing drifter used in the Faroe Isles and later in I believe Scotland most of which is totally irrelevant and not connected to the question I intend to ask. Its an age thing <*<
I have up to press wasted numerous tea bags trying to dye the sails an acceptable colour. I have achieved a sail cover similar to the legs of the dancers in 'Come dancing' but that is not what I want. I want a dark brown colour with a description that is not now PC  {:-{  Any ideas what to use please.
As usual grateful for any help. Chris G

Dylon
 Is OK.
When you are starting with an undyed fabric.
If you have tea stains then try a goodly strong
coffee.
Should give you a tan sail colour.

Will try the coffee and I was definitely thinking of the ladies legs all of which I assume are hairless, shaved or other wise.
Are we talking of instant or proper coffee.
Thanks chaps

If you do go for Dylon, make sure you get the correct type for the fabric you are using.
One for 100% cottons, another for synthetic mixes, etc.
