Water Cooled Back Plate on Nitro engines
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:15:47 pm »

Looking at the Weston UK Marine Engine site I noticed that their range of marine engines have water cooled back plates. See: http://westonuk.co.uk/westonuk2_101.htm

Anyone come across water cooled back plates before? Any major advantage? Any opinions?

Water cooled backplates will improve overall efficiency. The charge through the carb goes via the crankcase & up into the ports. By cooling the backplate you'll increase the charge density increasing the performance. A side benefit is that if the exhaust is that side then you'll reduce the temperature gradient across the cylinder which improves the piston fit & reduces the chances of a hot seize.
