What model related present did you get for Xmas?
« on: December 25, 2013, 08:12:13 pm »

I got a hardback book worth according to Ebay £4000 :o :o :o   you have to laugh at the value yanks put on stuff!

Sailing Trawlers by J Edgar March- I've bid on copies of this for the last year with no luck alway outbid, the last I tried ended on £91

As luck would have it I was on amazon and saw it there used, obviously! for £36- so a bargain and even better my wife bought if as a pressie for me- she did blanch at the cover price of 135shillings (who remembers those!) So as its been out of print since 1970 its not too much of a markup from £6.75/135shillings all things considered.

Over to you guys---

Brian.

nearest thing I got to anything boat related was a bottle of beer called "Bombardier"........think that was the name of a sailing vessel in Nelson's navy {-)

Does money that will soon be squandered on model boat bits count? If so, I have christmas to thank for a pair of Hawk 60 amp ESCs, with a programming card, and a pair of Raboesch 40mm 5 blade brass props  O0

A suspicously long flat box, which was from my Grandad. Turns out it's the balsa wood to start building HMS Tean, the one that was in Model Boats mag not long ago!

Also my Grandad gave my little brother his RNLI baby severn, unfortunatley the main board seems faulty, so I'm sticking proper running gear in for him  :-))

Hope you all had a great day, I couldn't move after my dinner!
Cheers,
Steven

Various books about real ships- The Gathering Storm The War at Sea- Sept 1939-April 1940
                                               Secret Flotillas Volume 2
The War of the Motor Gun Boats
The new Airfix 1/72 Hawker Hurricane Mk I (early) (I've already stuck most of it together!) :D

And lastly the most un-expected present from my Mum and Dad, a pocket watch and chain.
I really like pocket watches but never expected to get one-  a really nice, fantastic X-mas present! :-))
Thanks Mum and Dad.

Got this early 1/200 scale Missouri from trumpeter. Great kit also got some 1/200 Kingfisher aircraft yesterday. All I need now is the Pontos brass deluxe upgrade kit and all the running gear to convert to r/c operation. Need to save my pennies to get these items unless santa comes very early in 2014.

You have to laugh at the naughty people who would scan the book and then put it up on ebay in the US and squander their ill gotten gains on model boats. :-X
Very naughty.

Congratulations on the sprog.... doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl - anything with the merest hint of being for our grandchild I'm allowed to buy, irrespective of budget or reason. my grandson already has some fantastic stuff for when he's older, might be worn out and dusty by then though.
