There a many types of processes depending on the material printed or the technique used by the company making the printer.

The molten plastic deposition type is one method, however there is also a type where thin layers resin are spayed/deposited in ultra thin layers and cured by ultra violet light, another method laser sinters powdered nylon and variations on this can fuse powdered metals too, and another type mentioned binds plaster powder together.

More technologies out there, and many are in development. There's a major push to improve print times, which will of course lower costs.

No, they just were not there as I had not created them in 1:72.

they are now setup along with the 3 pounders and 6 pounders.

Yes, there are quite a few WW11 light guns - 12/6/2 pdrs, Pom Pom and Bofors on the list to do for the new year.

No it is not printing as we knew it but this is the next evolution of printing, Like it or not it is printing, even NASA does it..

The 4 3d printers we use at work are not referred to as printers. They are referred to as the growing booth es as it's more descriptive of what they do. Grow models.

I noticed the beautiful old style ship's wheel on Marmoi's Shapeway's page.

I asked if he could rescale them, received an email that he had done them and I ordered two all within a couple of days.

Try getting that kind of service these days.

Marmoi, can I ask what software you use to produce your models, I am thinking of a project for my unimat lathe that might require some gears to be produced. I have CAD so could produce the 3d models myself, but wondered if you used sketchup or similar?

I was very impressed by all of the parts made on the website and was struggling to make 2 x 3 pounder saluting
guns (the last parts to be made for my type 41 Frigate Leopard) I suggested to my wife that the two guns would make
an additional present for Christmas and I got a very sharp reply about " you have made all the parts yourself, is it
model making if a machine makes all the bits - may as well get a plastic kit.
So do I try AGAIN to make these guns or do I order some and not tell her

The software I use is Autodesk Inventor.

The reason I produce most of these models is that at 1:96/1:72 it can be very fidley to produce small items that look correct and could ruin a very good model. I am just hoping that if I can produce these models for people it will encourage them to keep building and even finish certain semi kits they have bought form now defunct suppliers.
