Wow Mark

Can't wait to see it next weekend, might have a challenge for you when I get the drawings the correct size for my Protectors search radar scanner. :-))

Sounds interesting, we will talk about it next weekend.

Always willing to look at a project if you have drawings. The drawings don't have to be to scale, I can normally sort that out, what is more important is I need dimensions.

I have had the first couple of kits come through and they have gone together without any problems, so the kit is now released.

As stated earlier, I will have the Wasp with me this Saturday and Sunday of Deans Marine open weekend if you want a closer look.

Now all I need to know it what scale and do you want a Kit (Possable) or a complete model (Static at one angle)?

Wow Mark that looks amazing :-))
I would love some in 1/128 scale but I don't know how small you can go, is it possible to get that much detail that small?

On another note, which size anchor chain would you recommend for a 1/96 scale predreadnought as I'm not sure which one would be suitable, I've looked at the ones on your website but I'm trying to remember what size you showed me at Rons open days.

Hi Nick,

I think 1/96th is going to be the smallest I can do these in.

The smallest chain I can produce is 11.5 links per inch, which is the samples I showed you, this would be suitable for destroyers and small cruisers, you will probably need something a bit heavier. Do you have any drawings or images that you can use to work out the size you need?

Had a feeling you'd say that regarding the quad! Worth an ask! :}

The battleship chains would be roughly the same size as your HMS Dreadnought versions, would that be the 4.5 links per inch?

I am running some print tests and will let you know about the 1/128th.

4.5 sounds about right, would you like me to set a chain up?

Thanks for that Mark
One final question how long is chain when it's unravelled?
I'm going to need at least three but I don't want to run out before I'm finished! I'd need approx 12 inches per length due the method the Victorians hung their anchor chains.

By my calculation you should get about 900mm of chain and there are anchor links on both ends.

The Quad Vickers looks amazing and the Wasp is very impressive.  Small weapons like the Vickers are some of the hardest parts of these models, you see so many good models let down by poor detailing.  A range of RN light weapons would go over really well especially with the resurgence of interest in 1/72nd and 1/35th plastic boat kits.  Aftermarket add-ons seem to get limited to Oerlikon and Bofors.  Anyone who produced 2Pdr Pom Poms,  Twin Vickers in Mark V power mounts or 6pdr Power mounts, etc could easily corner the market! Especially if they were availble in all the popular scales. %) %) %) %)

Sirmar used to do the 2pdr but I don't think anyone has done the 6 or 12 pdrs that the RN used. The wasp in 1/72 would be nice especially as it was carried on a variety of RN ships.

Would certainly make sourcing an airfix scout and modifying it more of a chore, excellent quality and I am extremely jealous.

I suppose with the right reference material even all the aircraft that were used in any navy could be scanned and input / cleaned and rescaled etc.

I take it that the assembled rotor was not complete - that the spindly connecting rods were eventually be inside the blades i.e. the body of the blade up against the rotor hub.

Thought the wire connectors might be a little flimsy - elongating the blade so that the rods are connecting pins may be a better idea - that's my two peneth worth, still love it though.

A couple of answers;

I use Autodesk Inventor for my modelling.

Yes the wires are the arms for the rotors as the Wasp did not have the rotors directly coupled to the hub, so they could be folded back. I could not model the full sizes arms as they would have been to weak and would easily snap. The largest wire I could use was tied down to minimal wall thicknesses allowed in the printing process. I used 0.2mm Nickel Silver wire which has a good stiffness.

The Wasp can quite easily be scaled up to 1:72 if any one wants it.

All the models (when available) can be bought online at;

Done, all in the stowed position please.
How about another gun that just about all RN ships would have carried, the saluting gun which doesn't seem to have changed much over the years.
