use a servo with  the gears taken out, and a double arm horn that when revolving gently compresses the waterpipe, this will then give you an intermittent outflow.

The direction indicator control box is just an interactive relay.  Put power on, it repeatedly switches its contacts on and off until you turn it off.  Using it to power the pump rather than lights, the pump will pulse.  If you've ever had an indicator bulb fail, you will have noticed that the indicator then flashes a lot faster.

Surely leave the gears in and remove the electronic bits, just leaving the case, gears and motor.  Apply power to the motor, you get a slowly rotating output shaft.  A cam on that (preferably a roller cam) would act like a peristaltic pump in reverse, it would compress a soft rubber tube enough to interrupt the flow.  The risk is splitting the tube, which then becomes a flooding mechanism.

What is it with these gratuitous insertions of /size and /font instructions when putting a quote into text on here?  It doesn't show until after  posting, when it suddenly appears as a row of dotted lines......

maplins used to do a water pump kit (toy) that had a proper piston pump that pumps in spurts, maybe you could get one and modify it for your boat.

I've also heard or restricting the outlet opening and fitting some sort of small bladder or balloon after the pump causes spurting...

Hi,
We at www.huntersystems.co.uk have just produced a Pulse Displacement Pump to simulate cooling water pulsing from the marine engines exhausts which looks a lot smaller than the one in the photo posted by Grendel. Setting up requires connecting to a battery (leads supplied) and water in (all piping is supplied) Runs on 6 to 12 volts and is in stock now. O0

Hunter, what's the price of that and is it OK for continuous running?

Just looked on the website. Am I right in saying it's some form of peristaltic pump then?

And what sort of speed does the water come out at as well? My boat will be using the water to cool the motors before chucking it out the exhausts.

One question it does come with pipes and leeds, i might need a little help installing it though i think it will be ok :). The price is fantastic. I will be needing two pipes for my lifeboat does this mean i will need like a spliter to make one go into two ?

I would suggest a tee piece similar to one in your windscreen wiper on your car on the output pipe

Guys....the Hunter displacement pump seems a bargin  :-))

Considering the low speed & duty cycle....should be near indestructible

It is not just scale lifeboats that showed spurt spurt engine cooling water, but all of those tramp steamers with piston driven condenser cooling pumps

I will copy this note to Graham @ Hunter & ask if it is a true peristaltic pump & what nominal displacement per minute?.....Derek

 :o ...oops there is no e-mail address  >:-o ......I won't telephone from OZ....... >>:-(

If twin water exhaust outlets are required......naturally as grendel suggests a common plastic T piece would be ideal ....Aquarium shops sell them for $1.00 for 4 pieces
The Dubro people also have very inexpensive spring wire clips  :-)) to clamp the silicone tubing over the barbs in the pump & other fittings etc

Another point for consideration is to make each discharge tube the same length & of the same orientation...this will ensure an equal volume of water is pumped or expelled on each pulsation........Derek

Sorry people, I put the info for the Pump onto the instruction leaflet but left it off the on-line shop's details - what an idiot!!
Hear is the full spec. for this unit.

Connection is via battery connection wires.
Also includes two off silicone tubing.
Input Voltage is 6 - 12volts dc
Current draw is 80mA
Flow Rate is 0-60 ml/min      Higher the input voltage - faster the rotation rate - faster the flow rate.
Pump Rotation Speed is 0.1-100rpm
Motor Size is Dia. 27.6 x Height 37.9mm
Pump Size is Dia. 31.7 x Height 20.1mm
The Flow Direction is controlled by the positive and negative connections.
All of this info. is available on the on-line shop at www.huntersystems.co.uk where you will find all of the info. such as email address and ordering details.

I must warn you about the stock levels and price. The unit has been a raging success and has taken us by surprise. The stock that we built has gone down very fast. The problem I have is that I am about to go into hospital again for another round of operations which will hit my production for at least three weeks afterwards so please be patient.

I set the RRP at £24.95 as being the standard costing but then set the first hundred at the special price of £17.95 given £5 off. Once the first hundred have gone the price will have to go up a wee bit to make a profit - sorry. <:(

Thanks for the clarification Graham.......  :-))
@ 6 Vdc  = ~40mA & ~50RPM + silicone tubing & 30ml/minute
I stand by my previous comment that this product should be near indestructible [in the intended application] & is a bargain  O0

We hope the Medicos are helpful for you......... one would hope that all of the remaining stock of the 2612 coolant pump is sold by the time you are back on deck....... {-)......Derek

Ok, I have set the on-line shop to accept all of the future orders so that we can work out the date order, however the downside is that Paypal  <*< will take your money when you order.
Sorry but there is no way out of this. <:(
