Help with electrics
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:08:47 pm »

Hi I am no good with electrics this is my downfull , now I have an "issue" it is simple to some people but for me it is a nightmare not knowing how to do things. The boat I have just got has a robbe/futaba multi decoder switch + prop 12+2 rx and a robbe/futaba 40mhz 7ch rx. Now I have a 2.4 7 ch spectrum rx ,can I just swap my 2.4 7ch rx for the futaba 7ch 40mhz rx and everything works or have I got to buy a futaba multi ch TX. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks baloo(Martin)

The Robbe-Futaba Multiprop 12+2 decoder is part of a multiplexing system which permits one radio channel to be used for a number of switching and servo movements. It needs the corresponding encoder switch panel (Robbe part #8101) installed into the transmitter, and this transmitter must be of the Robbe-Futaba F series (F14, F16 or F18). These sets are VHF FM radios e.g. 40MHz and will not operate Spektrum 2.4GHz receivers.
SO if you want to use the boat with the decoder then you'll need at the very least an F14 transmitter and a Multi-Switch-Prop switch module. You might be lucky and drop across one on an auction website but otherwise it's going to cost you about £185 new.
Alternatively you might find a wiring diagram which will do most of what you want without this luxury on the ACTion website http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php

No. The Skysport will not do the job - certainly not without drastic modifications well beyond the capability of someone who is "no good with electrics". These radios are made exclusively for Robbe by Futaba and don't resemble their "normal" aeroplane and helicopter radios at all - except superficially. The whole modular system is based on the F-series transmitters. No other type of radio has the dedicated front-panel space or associated internal circuitry to accommodate and operate these modules - see details here http://http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/acatalog/Robbe_F_Series_Radios.html
Sorry, but you will either have to buy an F-Series transmitter and 12+2 encoder switch module, or run the model without the decoder and find some other way of operating the auxiliary functions which are presently connected to it. That's your two options; there's no more.

Try Alexander Engels' website. I got my F16 from them at a much better price than any of the UK suppliers were offering. Current price for an F14 is 120 Euros plus shipping. http://www.engel-modellbau.eu/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1155&language=en

Hi again, the electric wiz kid!! back to ask 2 questions just b4 I buy my items.(1) I have seen on a website various multi-switch prop switch moduel for the F14 radio, it says use the moduel with 6 switches and 2 servo turn knobs, but can I use the variation of 7 switches and 1 servo turn knob what is the difference.
(2) do you get thicko instructions on how to put the right plug in the right place

Thanks

There isn't a variation with seven switches and one servo knob available. You get six and two (#8101), or four and four (#8039), or eight switches (#8084), or eight servos (#1512).
The 12+2 transmitter encoder module (six switches and two servos) is part #8101 while the corresponding decoder is #8370  - this is the decoder you already have fitted in the model.  If you want to use one of the servo outputs to operate a switch e.g. for lights then you'd need something like an ACTion P43 relay switch connected to that decoder output. Turn the knob one way for ON etc.
See here http://http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/acatalog/Robbe_F_Series_Radios.html  Other suppliers are available; all should be able to advise on compatible modules and decoders.

Ref Q2 and "thicko", how long is a piece of string? There are instructions with drawings... I know that that particular supplier will fit the encoder into the transmitter for you if requested. Don't forget you'll need crystals - this is a 40MHz set.
