wireing
« on: January 14, 2014, 05:40:47 pm »

hi all
i have a question ...dont know if this the right place to post this but hear gos
2x 12 volt motors ...with 1x20anp esc running the motors ..the motors are t12s
1x 7.2 volt bow thruster run by 15 anp esc all going to a spectrum receiver
my question is this why do they work with both red leads connected to the reciver
my under standing is that you have to remove one of the red wires because if you
do not do thjs it will blow the receiver
i have tried removeing the red wire on the esc running the bow thruster ...when you do that
only the motors work and the thruster dos not and vise versa .....WHAT AM I DOING WRONG
in other words all will work with the 2 red wires connected ....will not work with only one connected
                                                              hope someone can help
                                                                   thanks madmax

Some pics or fag packet sketches of your setup might help a little

The reason why there should only be one BEC feeding the RX/servo part of the system is that there is no certainty that all 5 volt BECs give exactly the same, and at even a few microvolts difference, they start arguing.  A BEC equipped ESC with the red wire disconnected is still using its internal BEC to work its own control circuit.  If an ESC that doesn't have a BEC has its red wire removed, it will stop working.  Some ESCs have their "power" switch in the feed to the BEC, if this is "off", and no red wire, the control part cannot work.

If you've got two seperate controllers then you will need all three wires from both of the controllers connected to the receiver, it's just like having more than one servo connected to the receiver, all the wires need to be connected to work.
You only need to remove the red wire when you are using a seperate battery pack to power the receiver and not useing the BEC circuit in the controller to power the receiver from the main motor batteries, if you are useing a seperate battery you will need to remove the red wire from both controllers

Hope this helps

With a separate battery for the RX, yes, but there is a strong potential for unexplained strange happenings when multiple BECs are all trying to feed the same bit of circuit.  Thats why you should disconnect the surplus ones.  But only the surplus ones.

It sounds like the bow thruster ESC is an opto unit, IE one that requires receiver 5 volt supply to feed the MCU (brains) of the ESC with a separate supply for the main power.

Is the main ESC supplying the power to the Rx?

It is only multiple BEC ESCs that need the red wire taken out, all but one if you are using the ESC to supply power to the receiver or all red wires if you are using a separate receiver power supply.
