I'm half POSH me, I am!
« on: January 24, 2014, 07:52:57 am »

We were on the wednesday ferry sailing back to Spain from Portmouth and took an outside cabin so we could 'see out' Wonder of wonders we got port side so what sun there was shined in.

Which brought to mind the old saying POSH port out startboard home, had to explain to son and swmbo. Excitement abounded only 1 hour into the trip mid channel. Coastguard helicopter came alongside and winched down a rescue paramedic and doctor. We sailed into bad weather as soon as we rounded the Isle of White, as the ship came up on a particularly bad wave an old lady who was passing a stair well was tossed down it. Poor dear broke her femur (top leg) and had to be winched off. Spectacular to watch but felt sorry for the lady.  I'll post some pics or video of it later on once we get sorted unpacking properly.

funny you should relate that................I sailed home from OZ in 1978 on a Russian cruise liner, and we sailed via Cape Horn. just after leaving New Zealand, they emptied the swimming pools for "safety" reasons as we were heading into bad weather.
On the first night of his trip home to Rio a Brazillian lad that had boarded in AUKLAND decided whilst drunk, to have a "dip" fully clothed in one of the pools, not realising that they had emptied it...........jumped in and broke his leg..............there was no turning back, no air lift off from a Rusky ship in those days......they just splinted him up, sat him on a makeshift "bed" in the bar  of his choice and let him sit there for the rest of his trip......pooor sod....mind you, he got all his booze for the next 15 days paid for, lol

Well Victoria does come into the story %)

Unloading the truck full of stuff we brought over this trip I did remark that swmbo had managed to bring enough books to restock the British Library, enough kitchen ware to keep Paul Hollywoods kitchen going for a year and enough beauty products to keep Victoria Beckham happy for a decade %%
