Will it fit?
« on: January 24, 2014, 07:05:27 pm »

I've had a 56 plate Nissan Note for a few months now.

It's a great car: a diesel, it turns in around 60-70mpg on my commute. And those clever chaps at Nissan have squeezed in dozens of cubby holes and storage spots that make it eminently practical for smuggling like the Millenium Falcon model boating use. Best of all, my Note is silver, and I can therefore sing old Hawkwind classics as I rumble like a tractor off the driveway.  ok2

But I had a nagging question. One that was keeping me awake at night.

You see, in the attic is HMS Dreadnought, quietly slumbering while I finish off Racundra. Now and again I pop up to the attic for the Christmas Tree and stuff like that, and I see the "canoe" lurking in the dark, urging me to return and finish it.

And I will. But the question was:

Will it fit?

HMS Dreadnought was conceived in 1904, and the Royal Navy's Committee of Designs decided that she should be 527' long.

Exactly a hundred years later, engineers and designers at Sunderland released the Note, probably also using rulers.

...Coincidence or not?  %%

With a big thumbs up from The Fates and Numerical Happenstance, was there any chance that the model, at seven-feet three-and-five-sixths of an inch long, would go in?

Only one way to find out!

With the passenger headrest taken off, the seat pulled forward, and tilted right back against the flattened rear seat, I found a had a nearly flat run possibly big enough for the job. Dashing up to the attic to awaken the beast I offered one up to the other. And the result?

Yes.

With one inch left over.  :-)) :} 8)

Excellent I can get my 72 inch KG 5th in my pug 306 hatch. Front passenger seat pulled forward and slip the model in at an angle in by the back

Wonder if there is any more big models in little cars

Hi we have a note as well, how did you get your Seats so flat?  With ours the rear seat back folds forward but lays at an angle not flat.  Geo

Hi tugmad! It's a split rear seat, and there's two tabs under the base of the seat which lets you move it fore-and-aft. In one of the positions the backrest folds flat over the base. This is on an 06-plate (not 56, as I mentioned in the OP) but I think most Notes of that vintage will be the same.

My 53 plate Corolla takes a 6ft model reasonably easily. "Easily" being subjective. My main problems have generally come from mast height, not length. Hence the need to build a trailer. BY.

I manage to fit my 1:32 Flower Corvette, currently 209cm or 6' 9" in old money in a VW Golf diagonally but it has been designed to cut in two and go across the boot once finished.

A 1/48th scale Flower Class Corvette will fit quite nicely into the back seat of a Classic Mini.  Wish I still had both.
