3rd coat on, also tried upholstering for the first time, kit included this cool white "pleather" and added a blue rope details on the seats.

Modified the rear seat and table, etc bits and pieces to suit the  look I am planning.

Starting to look like a boat.

Looking great  :-))

Pushed by this perfect build  I just went by my modelboat pusher (the only one worth mention in Denmark) and bought the "Jenny" for a special project. More progress on the Phantom just have to be done and then it's buildtime  :-)

Thanks guys, perfect, {:-{ -this is not even close to perfect but has taught me a lot of wooden boats.

Biggest lesson was the building board needs to be flat. -this boat has something "off" -the left and right side are not 100% same looking.

Just got the new board today, 120x60cm of 25mm mdf, should be good base to use.

Hoping the next (Dumas Chris-Craft 1949 runabout) build will be better.

But this Diva is not ready yet, a lot more to do...varnish,hull bottom painting,windows,motor...

Glad I stained the hull, the dark brown look is just what I wanted.

tica, hope to see a build log of Jenny  :-))   -was thinking about getting it for my next build but I chose the Chris-Craft so I can try planking.

Pate, one observation would it not be better to screw some timber under the board say 3 lengths just to stop any chance of the board twisting........please don't take this as a criticism but a suggestion

Hi Dave, I“ll  take all the help and suggestions I get! -I am a newbie in scale boat builds after all.

If you believe there is a chance that this can twist(this board is 25mm thick) then I guess I will go to the lumber yard tomorrow  :-))

Just hoping that the new pieces wont pull the now straight board crooked...(mdf is usually a lot straighter then solid woods)

-maybe I should use mdf strips or am I missing the point?

Personally I would suggest 40x40mm 3 or 4 under the board glued and screwed to hold it down,,,,,,make sure the wood is straight before you buy it

Thanks Dave, I“ll go tomorrow and see what they have, usually closest to 40mm we have over here is 2x2" and that could raise the board maybe too high to be comfortible to work on and I cant saw the dinner table legs  :embarrassed: or can I...no :police:

Maybe I will find something....

-I guess even regular 20x120mm is better then nothing.

Slight off topic continues a bit sorry.

This morning I checked the mdf plate and it was not straight anymore.  >>:-( -bought it from cold storage (-10) to room temperature and it looks affected the shape a bit.

So to the lumber yard I went.

20x50mm, thought installing them wide side to board to make it thinner but when I got the pieces home and checked against the ruler(that I think is straight) the narrow edges were straight as an arrow and wider were "almost perfect"  -so had to use them this way. and now it is even higher then was planned. but it looks to be ok height so no prob.

Hoping this is enough to keep it straight.

if you think it needs more I will get more stiffeners.

I am not a woodworker and cant saw a straight line so this was doomed to look like it does... -but looks straight.

I may fill the screw holes and paint it white.

I should have sprayed  the varnish with airbrush from the start... -just watersanded the 4th brushed layer a bit and sprayed a unthinned coat on and it went on so smooth...

Tomorrow another coat  %%

Lovely varnish Pate.  Are you going to cut it back and polish it once it's cured?  I go for 800, 1000 and 1200 wet and dry used wet then finish off with this to give the final polish.  Works for me   :-))

Hi Greg, I just few hours a go wetsanded with 400 and 800 grit using sanding block on the whole boat. Took a lot of varnish off but wanted to try and get all brush marks off.  -just was not 100% happy with it and will try as many times as it takes.  -I usually use acrylic clear never used these vintage products lol.

Will airbrush tomorrow 1 coat and see if more is needed.

I do have plenty of professional polishing stuff but I thought that these classic varnishes cant be polished since they are "soft" ?

Yes, I think you are right - if it's good old fashioned oil-based varnish then you can't cut it back and polish like you can with a polyurethane or epoxy finish.  You have to rely on skill, a good brush (or airbrush) and a warm, dry, dust free workshop for that mirror finish.

That's why I go for modern finishes and the polishing routine   :embarrassed: :embarrassed: .

Started the another build also and I must say that it is nice to work with 2 projects at the same time. While waiting for the glue on the other one to cure I can work with another. :-))

I like the shine of this varnish but the dust specs are so bad.(it stays tacky about 20 hours so a lot of time for the dust to settle) -my friends cant see the issues I am talking about but I can  <:( -so it may get another kind of clear some day, but for now that is the last coat of varnish.
Few piccies of todays situation.

Have the stuffing tube installed(m4 shaft) ,but the motor wont line up anymore perfectly(it did when I glued the tube) so I need to mod the motor mount a bit.

Also a rushed with the windows, they need to be re done some day, a attacked badly.(these windows go flush with the frames so needed to glue the edges)

Hello Darren,
Yours looks nice  :-))

-don“t assume that yours is not as good...-there are some issues(that I seem to be the only one to notice  <:( ) with my boat.

This it is my first wooden build so I am somewhat happy with it.

I see that the kit has changed some over the years, your railings and swimming platform, etc. looks different(unless you modified them)
