F1 - 2014
« on: January 30, 2014, 01:48:03 pm »

I thought I hated the high nose cars but the new cars are much uglier!

Loads of controversy about these fronts,I think it was Adrian Newey who is rather concerned about the backward step F1 has taken regarding safety. The under wing cars can go under another in an accident and launch a car airbourne...............time will tell

The concensus of a lot of the observers is that some
of the rules have been put in place hurriedly without
the thought that usually happens.
As Stav says 'time will tell'

Maybe since it's made of carbon fibre it will just shatter into smithereens on impact like usually happens to F1 parts, the driver's cockpit area should still have all the safety features such as crumple zones to take the force of impact so the driver doesn't, hope so...

I always loved the sound and the radical looks of F1 and always thought IndyCars were a step down in open wheel racing.  Sad to say the F1 2014 looks horrible and sounds muted in comparison the latest IndyCar.  They are short shifting at 10 to 11,000 rpm to conserve fuel thus the muted exhausts.  I still not a fan of the IndyCar Delta look but the F1 low nose cars are fantastically uglier.  The days of F1 V12,  gone forever.  Are we really saving the Planet?

The new F1 cars sound awful to me, sounds like an old Morris Minor. Thankfully, there's drag racing on this weekend...I can listen to a blown Hemi at full chat, a much better sound.

IMHO, of course...  ;)

On drag racing, I will never forget the sound of Tommy Ivo's Showboat at the first Blackbush event, and the Avro Vulcan at Farnborough with twin Olympus engines added underneath in a vertical climb.

However, Bahrain was a total corker from start to finish.  How many overtakes?  In the early days it was just a procession with only retirements seeming to alter the result. As to safety, that crash would not have been survivable in yesteryear. Noise levels are not as evident on TV.

Blackbush ...that brings back memories. 'She Devil Racing's' old V8 A35, 'The Swede' in the blown Volvo...and the guy who's name escapes me, in the first V8 Capri I'd ever seen. Oh, and 'StripTeaser'...the Jag powered Mini Pick Up. Happy Days...

every time they play with the rules all it does is make the racing more boring. cant get into this season already. horrible cars and predictable winners....again. its IRL for me now. that is racing and I had been an  f1 fan since the early 80's

Never really got into F1, it always seem so boring to me.

Two blown 500cu in top alcohol funny cars, side by side, unleashing almost 1000hp each...zero to 250mph + in less than five seconds...that's racing.

Remember the old saying ''serious fun comes in straight lines...''

Turn up the sound, and enjoy Stephie Milham at Santa Pod.

Me and my Dad must be the only ones who like the sound of the new engines, I always found the older engines a bit high pitch and whiny.  ;)
However I must agree that they are the most ugliest F1 car I've seen for years especially those noses!

As an avid fan, some of the rules are very ordinary, I have gotten used to the sound, as to the green credentials, load of  >>:-(

Just look at the Bahrain race, now that it is a night race, how many million watts of electricity were used to light up the track, that one race pretty much offsets the whole seasons fuel saving IMO %)

The Lotus nose looks good, shame about the performance this year.

I hope Redbull win the appeal for the Honey Badgers sake,

Dan to Pit We’ve got to decide what to do.

Sebastian, let Daniel go through please. Daniel is quicker than you, let him by please.
After years of MW suffering this made the race for me :}
