14 mm 3 hole flat brass stanchions (for Fairmount Alpine)
« on: February 02, 2014, 11:01:38 am »

Thought this might be of help .I wanted to change the supplied stanchions in the kit of Fairmount Alpine to brass  could not find any so went to PPD at Lochgilphead thy photetched me a  A4 sheet . I supplied the drawing and thy then did the art work to do the etching .Thy have managed to get 1080 on to the A4 sheet. The total cost inc art work ,delivery,VAT,finished product came to £46.80 .When I made the drawing I made the top hole so it would take a .75 mm brass wire and the other 2 holes to take a .50 mm brass wire. When I talked to the thy said that now thy have the art work the cost would be a lot less for a A4 sheet. The finished product is by far better than the stamped white metal/ aluminium ones . If the hole size is not to the requirement it would be just a phone call to get that changed.

Hi David - I wish that I had known this last week I've just bought the round type brass stantions for my Alpine.  They were about the same price but I think the flat ones may look more realistic.  Good luck with your build

Hi Circlip - The flat ones that billings now supply are aluminium and cannot be soldered.  I contacted billings to ask how you are supposed to assemble them and they suggested epoxy - Now that would be difficult  :((

Well there's a thought ,if thats an option I will have to buy the silver solder gear .The last time I did that I was using oxy/acetaline gear all a bit big for this I think.
Whats the approved gear these days. Iwill do the Google thing yet again.

David you can get a butane torch off of ebay for about a fiver see here

Very nice set you have produced.     :-))

I would have thought ordinary solder will work fine on these small items.
