Good idea or what?
« on: February 03, 2014, 05:13:45 pm »

On our local TV Station they reported about a large Toy and what passes today for a Model Shop. Once a month, on a Friday evening, he has a Boys Night. This is for adult males, Groups or just alone, who pay 30 € and they get the whole evening to drive RC cars, fly Helicopters, indoor planes, operate Model railways no boats as yet but a big 4 lane Scalextric track.there was also the local model Flying Club there, answering questions abour RTF models. You get a couple of beers or coffee  or what you want to drink, plus a Snack buffet. On the TV it looked great fun, there were a couple of Firms doing parties and a Football Club. There were about 30 odd guys there, the owner took orders, but did no direct sales. ( Shop opening laws) He said that it was a sucess but would be staying at once a month for the time being. 30x30 not a bad take for an evening, less the few expenses. :-)) Naturally the 2 women TV Presenters were all sneering about "Boys Toys" but that was to be expected.

That is a great idea ........... If I could find a model shop someplace close to where I live I'd suggest it ............ But sadly, around here there is nothing.

Nearest decent model shop I know to you is Addlestone models - but I don't think they'd get 30 people in the shop! Very good shop though, loads of stock.

There is Guildford Models that would be reasonably near but the shop is like so many crammed full of 'man toys' that any jolity in the aisles might dislodge an avalanche of kit boxes causing asphyxia by Tamiya:O)

It is a good idea, though I imagine the model boater's could only sail small models due to space or just have an evening of model making or tutorials.

I remember when Beattie's was a model shop, that the branch in High Holborn had a slot car track in the basement and held meetings one evening a week.

Yes....I have been a keen supporter of our local RC car/ buggy / short course truck racing club for years.
Can I help?

On the other subject of modelling centres......I opened my model shop in two industrial units with the intention of creating a place where modellers can visit and play about but the money just wasn't there so had to close.
