Clearly a large triangular 'gap' each side of the centre of window. My boat had
this part of the deck shaped into a vee so that there was no 'gap'.
Could you build in two triangular false sections here, then the cabin could sit
just into the shape and be supported all along the edges with the gap gone!?

You would need to remove the comb on front edge though to extend the deck.

I have left the cabin rear window open, as per plan
Paul, this was the trickiest bit for me too
Is there not a ply deck yet to fit all round?

Yes, side decks are supplied but I am thinking I like the Teak Idea and I do have some to cut up.

I'm going to reshape the edges of both window sections so they are angled to both edges and put in a centre post where they meet in the middle.

Paul,
Wouldn't you put the teak planking on top of the supplied deck pieces?
That's what I did. In fact it was the ply deck that came shaped as a vee
that hid the gap, so my idea of building two triangular pieces wouldn't be necessary.
But, yes a certain amount of adjusting will be required.

Probably not answer below

It wasn't supplied, that front piece of deck for the "Breast Hook" to over plank it would make it un-even.

Thanks for the photy's by the way, they will give me some ideas  :-))

The decks.

The only bits left to fit but alas no front deck <:(

I think I would make a cardboard template of the complete front shape first, then transfer to a 1/16th piece of ply.
This would then match up with the thickness of ply of the two deck pieces each side of the cabin?
Then plank the whole lot?
Just a thought......

A good thought to, but I have not any spare ply big enough.

Still thinking.................

Just noticed you are from my home County, Kent. Mum and Dad and younger brother live in Snodland and my elder brother lives in Tonbridge. I'm originally from a village just below the north downs called Kemsing  :-))

Thanks Mark,

A few more bits done, but am now down to a bit of re-bate carving/shaping to fit the bottom pair of skins, time consuming job this bit. I have some knives that are for whittling wood and have found them quite useful, I'll put a photy of them up soon.

Transom finishing skin in place with pegs  :-))

Cockpit front angled sections proved a challenge, I made a fopaux on this and have corrected it with a small bit of grafting in of bits of ply.

And I found the missing breast hook cover skin  :-))

Right, I'm back to it now, I have been sorting out a work area so as to keep things tidy and in one place  :-)) Not quite finished it yet but getting there :-)

The work area.

And todays progress, first bottom skin shaped and fitted, Right or wrong I have put plenty of glue on all joints with a small paint brush.

Where has the time gone, I am back to continue with both of my boat projects now, sorted a few bits today, fitted the second lower hull skin and I think it best to fit the motor, rudder and some electrics next while I can still get my fat fingers in there

More photy's as soon as my camera comes back home

Right, here is an update, a few bits may be missing as I have had a few internet access issues.

Where I am at now is the electrics stage, I am doing this before the sides are fitted but have made everything accessible and removable, not sure if others go about things like I do, I have made up trays and a switch bracket for the on/off switch as the pictures show, all these parts are to be unscrewed and removed for painting.

A couple of questions on the electrics, I have never done this before and am not sure about where some wires go.

1) three black wires come from the  motor and three blue ones come from the speed controller, is the middle one of each a common neutral ? Also the blue wires are marked below the soldering points "C", "B" and "A" what do these mean?

2) Does the speed controller receiver lead plug in the "THRO" connection on the receiver ?

3) Does the Rudder servo lead plug into the "RUDD" connection on the receiver ?

The receiver connection options are :- BIND/DATA, THRO, AILE, ELEV, RUDD, GEAR and AUX1, the unit is a Spektrum AR610 and is designed for model aircraft.

Please be critical of my ideas and let me know if my set up is OK or not, if you would like more photy's please just ask

A very nice build.  the only thing I would suggest is to change the tamiya connectors for something a little more robust

I have standardised my battery collection with these

Having done a little more reading I will probably take your advice on the gold connectors, thanks  essex2visuvesi

A wise choice... I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Tamiya connectors being the root of electrical gremlins.

Connections between the ESC and motor - its a question of trial and error. There is no 'polarity' as such. Connect them up at random, then test to see if you get the correct rotation. If not, swap over any two wires.
As for the receiver connections, it depends on where you want the throttle and steering to appear on the TX - left or right vertical or horizontal. I like both  steering and throttle on the right control and use the third and fourth connectors from the left - aileron and elevator in Spektrum speak.

Ok, that sounds interesting Barrie, so I can plug in anything anywhere apart from the BIND/DATA connection (I know what that one does) and see what happens.

Thanks, Paul

Found this explanation for the brushless motor connections Click here

"There are only six ways to connect the ESC to the motor: ABC, BCA, CAB, ACB, CBA, and BAC. The first three ways will make the motor spin one direction, and the other three will make it spin the opposite direction. So, you have a 50-50 chance of randomly connecting the ESC to the motor and having it spin correctly.

If the motor does not spin in the correct direction, then reversing any two wires from the ESC to the motor, such as A-C-B, will reverse the direction. This applies to industrial AC motors as well, and it does not matter which two wires you reverse."

Exactly, HOWEVER if the motor is brushless and sensored (these type of motors will have an extra connector lead with 5 wires) the these must be wired in the correct sequence.
I dont think as yet many people use these in model boats.
An example

Mostly sensored types are found in the 500-600 size motor class and are used in 1:10 & 1:8 scale cars

The easy way to sort out the receiver connections is to take the servo connector and plug it into one of the Rx sockets. Switch on the Tx and Rx and see which stick operates it. It is usual to have steering on an horizontal action, and throttle on a vertical one, but its not essential. By moving the servo across all the sockets you will find out what each Tx stick does and can decide where to put the steering and throttle.

Which Spektrum Tx have you got?

Hi Barrie,

It's a DX5e, it's what the supplier of the kit suggested when I spoke to him, he is not far from me and is in the Boston Model Boat Club which is probably the nearest active club to me, unless Grantham have fixed their water leaks.

Your suggestion sounds a positive move forward as I have not a clue and am very aware that I don't want to bu**er anything up, very new stuff to me, in fact it's a first.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated, Paul
