Afternoon folks


I have encountered a problem with my current project
the flat red primer i used on the hull is rubbing off on my hands just by handling the model
i can also scrape the paint off with a finger if i apply pressure
I used automotive primer designed for plastic and fibreglass
hull was lightly sanded before and had a gelcoat on it from the company 
hull was sanded and cleaned with soap and water and given 6 hours to dry before paint was applied
hull was painted inside a warm garage and given 30 minutes between coats


im not sure what to do now as i have never encountered this before
im really not wanting to strip the hull if i can avoid it is there any thing i can spray over the model to seal it ??




any help would be greatly appreciated

No easy way to say this..............BUT you SHOULD have read the paint advise I gave in the Painting section.
 
Reason it is PEELING is simple .......BAD rubbing down or lack of it/Grease still on hull/moisture trapped in hull
 
Wash it ALL off with Cellulose thinners MESSY but NO OTHER WAY
 
Wash it again till ALL the paint is off
 
Rub it down with 180 Grit to KEY the surface DRY NOT WET.................anything else and YOU are ASKING for trouble
 
When you have done this wash it down with PANEL WIPE...................Fairy liquid====WASTE OF TIME and Tack RAG
 
Rub primer with 400 or 500 or 600 DRY DRY DRY and NOT WET NOT WET.
 
Wash it down with PANEL WIPE and TACK RAG
 
Apply your top coat
 
 
PANEL WIPE.........IS A PROFESSIONAL DEGREARES.............NOTHING ELSE WILL DO......Wipe on with 1 cloth 1 to wipe off
TACK RAG............TO REMOVE ANY DUST
DRY RUBBING...WHY......You should not rub down wet as it introduces moisture and will need temps of at least 20 degrees C to get rid of it.......The ONLY time you should rub down wet is between GLOSS top coats as then the article you are painting has got  a protective coating

Hi Stavros before I spray I use isopropyl alcohol to degrease simply because its what I have to hand.  It doesn't take long to completely evaporate
I can say that I have never had any issues with my paint and I agree with you regards using tack rags.  What are you thoughts on using alcohol?  Can you see any issues that may arise?

if you go to ANY decent bodyshop and ask them NICELY if you can buy some panel wipe(take a can)explain that you are  modeler usually they will sell you some....failing that you will need to find a paintshop supplier or Ebay
