Graupner Neptune conversion
« on: February 08, 2014, 09:01:16 pm »

I decided to make a custom bridge for my Graupner Neptune kit.  Here are a couple of views of the CAD model:

Thanks Neil.  I will use either 1 or 2mm Sintra, a foamed PVC plastic that is light weight, machinable, and paintable.

Len:

I'm not familiar with Depron.   Sintra is a porous PVC plastic used in outdoor signage.  It is a great choice for superstructures, especially the ones where weight is an issue such as the Type 21 frigates. here is a link to a Sintra site:  http://sintrapvc.com/

on the picture the doors seem a little high to step over but I LIKE IT., is this just in case it visits down south and it rains.  %)

Warspite:

I noticed the door was high too.  I took it from a real ship, MV Cimbris.  I'm thinking of moving the door down a bit, what do you guys think?

Graupner Neptune conversion
« Reply #8 on: February 13, 2014, 03:32:21 pm »

I want to convert the Graupner Neptune to a 1/96 scale modern container ship.  I found the MV Cimbris matched the hull dimensions and I was able to obtain the general arrangement plans for the Cimbris. Here is a picture of the real ship:

I used the plans to make a 3 dimensional CAD model of the superstructure:

From the CAD model I designed a "kit" and converted it to G-code to cut out of 1mm Sintra on my CNC router.  Here is the kit:

I'll start building later today and post the progress.

Thanks Peter and Martin.  Here is the start of the build.

Gluing the sides to the front using a square angle.  I use a piece of glass as the working surface since I can scrape the glue off and it is very flat.

Progress so far:
