Royal Tudor, cardboard mock up to test the plans
« on: February 15, 2014, 07:05:02 pm »

Started my small scale (possibly 1:20 - cant remember) cardboard test model of the Broads cruiser Royal Tudor, only doing a little bit each day, so it will take some time, but here it is laid up on a construction frame (frames just slotted into the support), just to test the fit and run of the main timbers, last time I just built a half model of my other set of home drawn (in CAD) plans. so heres the progress to date.

update, today I started adding the main longitudinal members, started off with cardboard strips - not happy with the curves so dug out some 1/32" ply and made strips from this, much better curves.

Cardboard is OK for flat panel templates but no
natural spring when using it for stringers.
No two bits of cardboard will give the same curve.
Watching and waiting :-))

fortunately the sides should be relatively flat (at any particular point, though the angle changes at each rib) covering / planking I looked at diagonal for the bottom chine that seems to work.

one side is now fully ribbed out,  i really need to improve my skill at keeping the strips the sama width, but nothing is easy in thick card.

well I've had a nice quiet morning, working on the boat. started ribbing the second side, and even trying out the planking on the bottom.
