hi watching a film today about tanks what is the piece of pipe ,,, or tube in the middle of the main gun on our tanks

I think it is some sort of purging system so that the interior of the tank is not filled with fumes when the breech is opened to reload. But I stand to be corrected.

Yup, it is a bore extractor and is fitted to most modern AFVs somewhere along the barrel. On warships mounting large weapons (6-18inch) I believe the system blew compressed air into the bore to blow fumes out. I look forward to clarifying wisdom on this.
