Lacquer or not on a Lifeboat
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:23:56 am »

Hi,
Conundrum time again, Ive got to the point that the superstructure on my Tamar has not got that true glossy look and is more of a satin finish, do I take the risk and use a car lacquer or other type (open to suggestons) whats the norm?
Does anyone laquer the hull too?
 Appreciate any help as always.
Regards,
Rich

Right then not so much of a problem Rich............

Step 1..................WET flat the superstructure with 2500 wet dry to get the paintwork flat taking EXTREME care not to rub through............if you do recoat the area and flat again

Step 2...................Wash the superstructure down with plain water to get rid of ALL the residue

Step 3...................Panel wipe and tack rag everything

Step 4.................. Lacquer the superstructure (make sure your Garage/shed wherever is WARM)

It sounds to me that the place where you sprayed the superstructure wasn't WARM enough and caused the paint to go slightly satin.

As for using lacquer on The hull ......as far long as it is a gloss one and NOT satin I can not see a problem at all as the lifeboats are usually are a high gloss finish
