to get the best out of the cat in the corners he should be using a skeg strut :-)) they really do make a diffrence and they help keep the cat in line and not skit about as much,i would never run one without one on O0

Will be testing again soon and will keep your advice at the top of my thoughts when testing.

Hi mart and kurt

Yes I realise the wrc manifold will massively compromise the max engine performance. The zen is a 31cc tuned engine so will over power cat, so I thought the long manifold won't be detrimental, as at least it has more chance of running upright! Lower revs at top end, maybe a bit more torque with a pipe which is about 3.5cm too long!!!!

I tried to fit a 105 manifold but the hatch would not fit without looking like like it was sawn apart, which is why I went for the wrc job.

Have not yet run engine in. Started with a 470 2 blade bronze prop. Have a 6717/3 brass  will experiment with at next outing. Ran with one 1000cc bag in the  starboard sponson, but have designed set up to run twin Baxter bags, one in each sponson, will try these out next outing. On strut, just using standard mono strut, again have one with bladed tip, but not yet tried out yet.

Thanks again to both of you your advice is very much appreciated.

A cat NEEDS a skeg or it will slide round the corners, thats fine it looks cool but for racing your gonna want more sharper turns which is what the skeg will help with much the same as turn fins on a mono.So Yes it will help cornering a lot,on cats you need less rudder throw and can get away with a shorter one too so that can also gain you some speed.

hi mart,yh its abit tight in there {-) {-) but seriously it sure makes things easy,no trouble working on it,i love these old boats they corner like nothing else out there :-))  talking about hatches i had to have the loft hatch made bigger so i could get my boats up there :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
kurt and sha

Lol defo no problem working on things,im wondering how rigid that thing is though with all that wide open space on the top.
Hey you just gave me an idea,im off to measure the loft opening lol.

there is a new wtc header thats not as long as yours garry,iv seen them they are more of a tighter closer bend giving less header which should do the job nicely mate
mart,,did you measure the loft hatch its great for hiding things away from SWIMBO   LOL  {-) {-)  the boat is very rigid you wouldnt thinks so with that size opening  :-))

Hi Mart
Garry's PMB competition pipe has a wide diameter silencing chamber which is why the header you kindly showed would still give issues with his hatch cover in terms of clearance. The product that Kurt mentioned is one that I too have seen advertised and I also think could be a great solution. Having seen Garry's new Mercury in action it is by a mile much better (faster and better handling) than his 2013 winning Cat. And for that reason alone I suspect he may stick with what he has currently which is fair enough.

However Garry, if you decide to seek that ideal pipe length using the 105 header, you might want to borrow from me the Stainless Tuned Pipe I have that remains in pristine condition. It looks similar to the one in Mart's photo. The thing I love about this pipe is that the water cooling jacket is integral to the pipe. It does not rely upon O-rings that can fail. The pipe having a positive clamp onto the header tube does not require any accessories to prevent it sliding in or out at the connection:

Thanks kurt, Craig And Mart!

The wrap to flange header is narrow ideal! One to put in the ideas bag. I did consider getting this, when building cat but would need to buy new hatch as it sits off centre.

Definitely one to consider...

Hi Kurt

That very header is the one I spotted. I reckon that this product may be a gem for those that need to retain the WTC option whilst wanting better power from their engines. Thank you for sharing the link.

Hi all
The mpm manifold is a wtf not wtc manifold. This means the pipe will run in line from the exhaust flange not the centre. It is a great compromise to give a short pipe length,. I considered this on my boat but I had already cut the hatch down the centre, instead of to the left of centre.

If I transfer to wft manifold, will need to change hatch, shield and pipe mount. Will do if I don't get enough speed.
Cheers

Looking good Garry. Yes you would need to alter the hatch to fit the WTF manifold. just because it gets abit of an angle to get it to the rear... Not as much at 105 tho.

Ive come to a standstill with my build!:(... Hopefully will get back on track at weekend!

Im pretty sure ive seen a falcon cat use a 105 deg header and no mods to hatch, same cat as mercury  built in China by promise hobbies.Maybe it depends what pipe etc.
If hes happy with how its performing then no worries but if he wants max performance then that header needs to go.Anyway even if the hatch did need remodeling isnt that all part of the fun ?.

hi Garry,,,,,no the tk is still in its box,iv re tuned the zen that i ran last year,it seems to be quicker and im made up with it...i am going to try some different props on it because im sure it has abit more to give me,failing that maybe rebore out some carbs and try that %%  but it handled the turns really well and apart from hitting some wood in the lake and knocking rudder up, it did go well.one more week to test and a couple of nights trying diferent carbs ,,,but on the whole,,,,yeah mate made up with it :-))

You always do up the anti with new boats and engine combos, looks like this one could be a real contender! Your boats are always exciting and a joy to see racing, that hull seemed to turn at full throttle without a glitch?

Is it a cat, I think it is, couldn't make that out for sure on my iPhone?

I tested my mercury today, it ran well with a tuned zen, but looks placid compared with yours.
I didn't dare chuck it into turns at full bore!
Cheers

its the old conquest garry i raced last year in cat class 2,i ran it with a mild mod tune that i did and got bored the other night and re tuned it again ,need to get it decked hopefully this week to up compression which might see abit more from it,,placing the fuel bag in the right hand sponson helps it corner at full throttle.
im sure your cat will well its all about pushing it to its limits and beyond so you know how far it can be pushed mate, set up right you will be surprised at what it will do  :-)) :-)) :-))
