Western Approaches Blue
« on: February 25, 2014, 10:43:55 am »

I have just realised that there was an 'Alternate Western Approaches Blue' which is not as pale as the usual Western Approaches Blue. Does anybody know where the Alternate was used ?

The reason I ask is that after spraying the blue on a Flower corvette hull,  I though "that doesn't look like the profile", did a bit more research and realised that I had used the Alternate shade.....

Not an alternate but a replacement. WA Blue was replaced by a colour called B55 in 1943 under CB3098. By the end of the war, there was anew version of B55 which was more a tan grey than a blue.
White Ensign paints do all 3 colours. A couple of scans attached of the White Ensign paints to give you an idea of the difference in them.
