Very difficult to list just five, but here goes....
1 Cabaret.
I infuriate my Wife by singing along with all the songs, including the ones in German, while giving the salute during that classic scene in the Biergarten. Also, it features Liza Minelli in black stockings and suspenders....
2 Amelie.
One of the cleverest and most charming films ever made, some bare breasts, but a vicar could watch it.
3 Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources.
A slight cheat, but the two can't really be separated, and I'd happily pay to watch Gerard Depardieu mowing his lawn.
4 The Last American Hero.
Beau Bridges best film, also for me the only realistic and believable film on motor racing ever made.
5 Babette's Feast.
Possibly because I'm part Danish, but a great Oscar-winning film anyway.
It pained me a little to leave out favourites like The Blues Brothers and two John Wayne classics, The Searchers and They were Expendable, and also of course Martin's favorite Das Boot. Also My Cousin Vinny, The Train and Nikita, but if I'm asked again next week, the list will probably have changed. I could easily come up with my top five for French or German language films as well, Delicatessen very nearly made it into the top five.
If we were voting for favourite film scenes though, what could top the bit where Kristin Scott Thomas climbs slowly out of her bath in The English Patient ?
