BALLYCOTTON LIFEBOAT GOES HOME
« on: March 07, 2014, 05:22:21 pm »

It is with absolute joy and great delight that I can say that this fine, beautiful and venerable lifeboat, the only RNLI lifeboat in history to have been awarded a Gold medal for her self, has finally been saved from a watery grave, and is now on her way home to her rightful place in history...........BALLYCOTTON, County Cork, EIRE where she is to be restored to working condition.......

A trust was set up last September ( I think) and in that time they have raised enough money to buy her, pay for her uplifting from the Grand Canal Basin, Dublin and transport back to Ballycotton.

Although the now hard work of both restoration and fund raising to pay for that begins.......there is light at the end of the tunnel that one of the most famous lifeboats in RNLI history will be transformed from what you see in the video to a beautiful boat once again.

If you want to read about one of the most famous and arduous rescues in maritime history just google  DAUNT Rock Lightship rescue

below is a video of her uplifting....   http://vimeo.com/88062401

and guess who's going over to see her and her ancestral station in around 4 weeks time...........I can't wait.

WoW

A senior moment indeed >>:-(
That's what happens when you spend all
afternoon trying to get a waterline sorted
when the plans are not to scale and too
faded to scale up and no chance of a beer
as SWIMBO needs my chauffeuring services
this evening <:(

ansome! proper job! lets hope the restoration will speedily progress.
I was privileged to steer Neils model at least twice, what a wonderful day it would be if I could do the same with the real thing in a few years time.
