Hi.
its a 1970`s marblehead yacht or if you like am RM as its got radio fitted rather than vane steering.  would say a new set of sails are in order. Rigging also needs a bit of sorting out. Looks like you got a futaba M series 4 channel radio with it as well  but you only need a two channel as you have only got rudder and sail winch.
crap photo but is the rudder adrift as well.

52"? Isn't that too long for a Marblehead?  If only slightly.

That's my thinking.
Strange sail set up with a masthead
foresail also.

Perhaps it is an A Class? The size would seem about right to me....
If so then other questions would then relate to the weight, draft, sail area, etc as the A Class boats are formula based and they vary quite a bit in size....

mr penguin
don`t know what sort of A class you have in OZ but in the UK A class as I remember them were always @ six to six and a half feet loa and 54in wl.
The modern A class has shrunk a little but still over 6 feet loa

Hi,

In old money a Marblehead is 50 inches long,

+ or - a quarter inch for bow bumper.

Allowed 800 square inches of sail.

Yes Frank I think you may be right... A Class is the same worldwide as far as I am aware.... My A Class is around 1600 mm; the conversions weren't happening in my head right....
I noticed the boat in the picture had a deeper keel than usual for our local A Class boats, thought that may be offset by a shorter hull to fit the class equation, but this one in question is only about 1320mm long so that would be unlikely, must be something else....

Also the picture seems odd with the jib hard on deck and the main so high, almost looks like the sails are reversed????

Hi,

51"length.

It's 3/4 of an inch too long.

Here in Oz it would not get past the Race Committee.

I do have an old 1950s style yacht and to race it has to go under a Grandfather clause to allow it to race.

Sounds like the jib pivot point is missing? As a rough guide to where is should be:
Measure the distance from the mainsail fairlead to the main boom pivot point.
The jib pivot point should be about this distance forward of the jib fairlead.

The jib pivot point may have used a rail or channel to provide a range of adjustment
Picture below may help... the jib boom has a heavy duty fishing swivel at the pivot point, the lower end is held by the pin through the channel - the jib boom finishes up about 30mm above deck
