'THE DREAM MACHINE' 1/12 SCALE HONDA ROADPAL SCOOTER DIO.
« on: March 30, 2014, 04:59:53 pm »

This is my 1/12 Honda Roadpal scooter from 1979. The theme for this build is a 17 year old lad that has got hold of a knackered scooter...it is rusty and will probably never go, but to him it is his 'Dream Machine.'

So, as is the norm with me, it is a wreck. %%

The bike is painted yellow that I have faded in a light yellow/cream. The chrome work has been distressed by dotting with aluminium paint to represent wear. There is three rust pigments added and a grey powder mix. Tamiya clear paints for the lights. The seat has been worn (hole added) and I added some fine sponge to show the filling. This is OOB, and the only thing that lets it down are the spokes, a bit too thick but not the end of the world. The dio board, is a place-mat with a floor tile cut down and added for the drive, the top coating was peeled away to show the pattern. The fence is lollipop sticks shaped and worn with wood poles. These have been stained, dried-varnished-salted-top coat (white at the front and blue on the back), left to nearly dry then a soft toothbrush used to remove the salt-once dry a crackel paint was added to give the effect of peeling then it was matt varnished. The reverse has a small garden area-with various grasses, small tiles (weathered) and bushes added to a white gravel border. Finally some items I had dotted around, a large fuel can, motor oil, spanner.

Comments always welcome.

"Dream" machine? Honda did do a Dream (according to Mr Honda) that heralded the 250 twin import that crippled the Brit market. 175 Benley helped as well.

{-) I know what you mean regarding the spanner, it is slightly too big for the scale, have some smaller 1/12 scale tools to add. The dream machine was introduced in 1963 wasn't it?

Brilliant as usual Si. :-)) :-))

Little bit worried about whether the lad really likes it.

It looks as if he is about to fire up his Zippo Lighter
to give the bike a Viking Funeral.  %% %% %%

The 250 Honda Dream had a pressed steel Frame and square tube forks. when you put European tyres on it you could use the full performance.which would give Brit 350s and 500s a run for their Money.
