what battery for brushless motor,

hi guys, i,m thinking of buying a torpedo boat, that has a brushless motor and brushless esc,..will i be tied to using a lipo battery, or can i use a 7.2v or 8.4 nimh battery,

Hi there you can use any battery with brushless motors the speed controllers don't care as long as they are programmed for them.
I'd better explain. When using lipo's you must not let the battery voltage drop below certain limits as permanent damage will be done to the battery. Most brushless ESC's have settings that will warn you when these limits are being approached (by cutting the power or lowering the power). But when using nicad or hydride cells no such limiting is needed, so they can have this feature disabled.
About as clear as mud but important.
