Purser/seiner/pelagic trawler lines or plans
« on: April 03, 2014, 12:10:46 am »

Hello.

Can any of you help me to find lines and build plans for a pelagic trawler/purser/seiner approx 50-80 meter length, and from approx year 1995-> .
Have for many years want to build a model of one, size 130-150 cm long depend of what plan I end up with.

Have you  asked if any builders in Norway would be willing to supply drawings for the purpose of building a model = Charlie

Charlie....you have as much chance of ship builders supplying plans from Norway as I have platting fog..............

remembered years ago Tommy Watt.....curator of Shetland Museum, Lerwick asking me if I could build a model of the seiner Altaire, and he would get the plans for the boat....

both he and I spent over 6 months trying the ship builders and museums in Norway by writing letters to them..............they never replied to either of us ONCE........It was just sheer ignorance............

in the end Tommy went aboard the Altaire one day and asked the owner skipper if he could get hold of them......but even he took nearly 4 months to get them...........think I still have them somewhere but it's the old Altaire daiting to the mid 90's.......so don't hold out hope of getting them from Norway.......very none responsive to modellers. sad to say.

I have gone through the same trials,... trying to contact shipyards for information to build models.
99.9% of them will not respond, the 0.01 percent that do will cite Copyright issues.
When I do find that Nth percent response that will assist me with information, I am then bound by
a Non Disclosure Agreement, and can not share the plans.
Karstensens is one of those shipyards that don't respond. It is an engineering /client copyright issue that
prevents them from sharing the data we would like to build models.

I was told by an associate, that he could get me trawler info from a UK shipyard, but I was jazzing on the
Karstensens designs, and "lines".  It was a German hobbyist that produced the lines for the ST-140.
And I would be happy to share a copy if that is what you would like to build.

Since you are in Denmark, perhaps contacting these modelers will be helpful.

I live not far away from Karstensens shipyard and talk to them in person and not on the phone, to buy some plans, even for some ship that today is choppet up in pieces and sold for scrap to China, but no no no it can not be posible to get any help from them at all. The same went for the other shipyards in the area, no matter how you ask and offer to pay, the have copyright etc and always end up with nothing in the end. Still hoping that any of you have some plans and want to share them with me, if I get different kinds then I promise to build one of each ;-)

Glad you found the lines from the link Brian
Thanks for sharing.
From the downloadable plans of that site one could convert the REMBRANDT expedition yacht back into a beautiful fishing vessel.

For Brian's comfort, some shipyards, ship brokers or shipping lines host on their websites PDFs of the GA plans, albeit most in small scale.
If however, the degree of detail and the small scale of such available drawings would suffice for your model making purposes and meet your demands,
creating an acceptable body plan for a decent model from them is often less witchcraft and sorcery than commonly assumed.

Yeh Brian those plans in the link are an older style....

Deadwood has a thread in rc modellbau shiffe forum, he has about 30 odd pages of designs he has done on Delftship...
Or maybe pm him on here

Im pretty sure he has that style of trawler as one of his downloads....( if not he will have something in there that may be adaptable )

I forgot since it was a while ago.
According to the mtime of the files I have just rediscovered on an unmounted file system on my hard disk they date back to Nov 2012.
That must have been when I drew the lines plan of the above mentioned ST-140 Trawler after the product sheet from the Norwegian SKIPSTEKNISK ship designers
which contained the above posted GA plan and below artist's impression of the vessel along with its main particulars.

Steinhagen modelltechnik offers grp hulls for these kind of vessels, I believe.
All the best!
