Steinhagen-Modelltechnik are based in the Southern Baltic Sea Port City Kiel in Germany.
Though their GRP Hulls usually come with a hefty price tag they have earned a reputation among model boaters to be of highest quality of all GRP model ship hull vendors on the German market currently.

You can download their catalogue from here.

While at the following links you will find three variants (mainly in length and displacement) of a modern trawler from their range of products:

Trawler Skagen 389
Trawler Skagen 391
Trawler Skagen 393

P.S. Sorry, for the redundant information. While I was typing my post Chris already had posted.

My first thought was that exactly, Steinhagen is always so expensive...

Trawler Skagen 391

So, ... wait, 52€ Can that even be right?

 :o

I think I may make some inquires.. :}

Yes, the price seems affordable.
I've just looked it up in the in the current price list from the Steinhagen website.

But beware this note in the header of each page:
Quote from: Steinhagen Pricelist
Gültig ab 28.10.2013 - Alle Preise in Euro zzgl. der ges. MWSt. (derzeit 19%)

It says that all prices in the list are exclusive of the VAT in Germany which is 19% for most products (n.b. books have only half that percentage of VAT).

So the shortest trawler hull from the product line would cost almost 62 €.

When we know the price of the materials, the resin, the tissues and of the workforce it is not expensive

I´m sure this GRP hulls are great, but to small for the boats I build, almost all of my build are boats 1 meter -1,60 meters in lengt and made with frames and wood for the body and last fiberglass. But think when I getting older and weaker  {:-{ , then I proberly shift to GRP hull and 1/2 meters boat at max. lengt  ok2 , but as long then i´m young and healty then the big boats are my favorite  :-))  he he !!!. I have a nice projekt going on right now with a pelagic trawler, build in 1:50 and ended up in size 1,40 meters in lengt, hopefully this will be a functionel trawler with net and everything, catching fish for my cat  O0

Brian...
there is nothing weak about grp that you have to make a heavy POF hull and then coat it with grp.......some of the largest private yachts and our own minesweepers are grp hulls..........and seem to weather storms pretty easily, so a 1.83mtr model such as my clyde lifeboat or any purse seiner will have ample strength.

Bill Wood has a pelagic trawler hull ( Girl Stephanie from Ireland ) that's 2m long and can be ordered from him in Aberdeen

wpwood50@tiscali.co.uk

He's got a lot of big hulls of various trawlers all moulds made as far as possible off the shipyard plans

Aye Charlie his models are all either 1/25th for the smaller boats or 1/33rd for the bigger boats ( Spinningdale at 1/33rd around 32'' other boats up to 48'' normally )

Give Bill a shout he'll Email you his hull list and prices

Hello boys

Sorry but I think you´re misunderstand me, I didn´t mean that the GRP hulls are weak, but these 3 pelagic hulls were to small for the scale of boats I build in. This was not a critic of GRP hulls or SMT´s fine work, the only thing was the size, I think were to small for me  :-) .

The weak one was myself and when I get old and loose my streng to handle the bigger models, thats what I meant  ok2 .

Fiberglass are a very strong thing, have a homemade boat at 5,65 meters and using it for sailing to places where I dive, it carries easy 6 divers with all gear, and people who knows diving know how heavy the gear is, and not forget the 175 kg for the 115 HP motor. This boat are made of fiberglass on fiberglass many times, no wood or steel to give more strengt and no need for this, course the fiberglass is strong enough to handle even hard weather and heavy loaded.

Regards Brian.

I think I prefer the SMT65(128€ shipped), however I always run into trouble making direct bank transfers overseas.
My bank has frustrated two German model shops. One to the point where he stopped emailing me.  {:-{

So I may end up scratch building anyway.
