Dunkirk for me, mainly because I was in it, together with 4,000 other British soldiers, made at Camber Sands in 1957. (Dunkirk had altered so could not be used.) All troops near to the cameras were equipped with old BDs and long sword bayonets. The bangs on the beach were b.....y loud and would blow you off your feet if you were too close to them. I was near the ambulance in the centre of the beach. Had to be fit, it was a long way from the surf to the dunes as we played an air attack Scene. We were 5 days shooting, and were paid 1 Pound a day, if you got wet an extra 10 Shillings. Real dosh in those days.Join the army and see the World.
