Since when have helicopters needed ramps?

Mind you it's like HMS Ocean and Bulwa*k rolled into one, which is pretty cool.

They could have given her a coat of paint whilst she was fitting out in Melbourne.  %%
HMAS Adelaide has taken her place since February 2014
F35's on order but probably only for the RAAF if they ever get delivered.

Stowage, if they are not needed on deck they can be taken below - they also take light vehicles up to the top deck for slinging to the underside of choppers along with pallets of cargo / munitions / food / supplies etc just like the ones we have.

I think he means the bow ramp as used on through deck cruisers to assist
VTOL aircraft taking off with heavy payloads.
Not the ramps between decks.

oh! sorry, and on that note - just like our navy - getting the F35 will be a long process - unless they get preferential treatment for them.

sorry to tell you guys but the Canberra is not meant to be carrying fixed wing aircraft.
the F35s that the RAAF are the A variant for land based usage, not the B or C versions

I read years ago that they decided to keep the ramp as it would protect the helicopters and equipment
a bit better from sea spray in rough weather.

Anyhow it is a really ugly looking ship   O0 O0 O0

That makes sense. I suspect it future-proofs it too if it should ever change role at a later date.

Also assuming they can fly!! Why do we have to order unproved and expensive kit from the US (that always meant useless or knackered to us ) instead of useing our own brians and talents and building our own?

Your Polititian's sold out to US demands, more like.
Just as the UK, had to after the war, to pay back all the lend-lease.
You don't think the US came into the war to help without getting anything in return do you.
THe UK, and Europe paid for every item that left the US, as did Au and to a minor extent did NZ.
All big business my friend,

Yes and the current Government has now agreed for US bases to be built in Australia. We already have a permanent contingent of 1500 US Marines in North Queensland, to be increased to 2500 men and equipment

Soon we will become the 53rd state of USA as they, the US, want Oz as a pacific base as in WWII.
