When I post to the forum - or send a private message - I loose the line spacing. If I have just hit return it adds the new line to the old one, a single space becomes directly underneath and if I want any gap at all I have to double "return". Why?

Example:

Message 1Message 2 single return
Message 3 Double return
Compare the above to the attached screen grab image to see what I mean.

I do not have the same problem anywhere else,

A single return as standard acts just like a typewriter, it steps one line to start the new one. (presses enter once)
A double return gives two lines. (presses enter twice)

Like that.
Much depends on local settings, and how the application being used responds to those settings. A local setting to give a double space will appear to put more room between one line and the next, but might be ignored by an application (like the word processor used on a website message page) and treated as a "standard" causing you to lose your local settings. Some PCs might insert a line feed (or carriage return, or new line) after so any characters, giving the impression of having been typed on a Commodore PET.

The Mayhem application does act like this with some web browsers, I get it with Firefox. I have found the solution in my case is to click on the red 'A' button at the right hand end of the options above the row of emoticons before typing any text.

The CR/LF then behaves as it should.

Thank you. Yes I use Firefox.
A pressed & Single return so this should be on a new line.
Fingers crossed.

Thankyou for that tip Colin, the line spacing issue with Firefox has 'foxed' me (until now).

It's been dogging me forever. So what does the "A" view mean? Also Martin said how to post youtube direct to posts and it shows differently whether "A" is selected or not -but how do you do it when the forum keeps changes the words in the link you post? I changed the draft and previewed script exactly to what Martin shows, but the eventual post shows something different!

Out of curiosity are we being hacked at the moment?

The number of guests doing unknown actions and looking at the same topic at the same time is a bit weird.
We’ve even had over 600 people looking at the forum today which is almost triple the usual number of hits.
Just thought I’d ask if we’re having a problem or not.

Why do I have to sign in now when I’ve ticked the box to stay logged in? Also top and bottom headers have turned black.

Try clearing your browser cache..... and do a maleware scan....

After a number of bad tempered posts last couple of weeks, it irritates me to have to post another reminder....! .....

'No forum member should have to put up with any personal rants, insults, ridicule, deliberate 'wind-up's' or adverse criticism. We're all intelligent people here and we all know the 'spirit of Mayhem', save any 'bad mouthing' you need for the pub.

Running this forum takes hours and hours every day by myself, the moderators, a number of other unsung heroes and it would
be nothing with your contributions each and every day. To have members coming to me saying they "can't bear to see the way
the deteriorating", is a real personal defeat for me. A number of former active members no long contribute partially in fear of being
shouted down by people that know less then they do in a particular field.

This is a family centric forum built on mutual respect, encouragement and sharing of mutual knowledge. If you have a contra
point of view, you don't have to shout someone else down to make your point I don't want to have to deal with petulant
behaviour from grown adults and why should ! have to? This is not a spit-&-sawdust salon in the Wild West! Most of can
disagree but have learnt not to be disagreeable. Stick to the ethos of the forum and we'll all benefit from it. As someone
said to me a while ago, "membership of this forum is a privilege, not a human right!" The Yellow & Red card system has been in place for over a decade so don't act surprised if you get a PM from me if you infringe the necessary rules.

Rant over. Now who has something positive / interesting to say about model boats?
