Martin,

If it's enabled in Admin then according to what I've read the server/host has to have 'PSpell dictionary files' installed, if it's not then the spell check wont work.

This here might shed some light on it.

Go to posts 4 onwards and that might help. I don't think it matters that the post is in a godaddy forum the issue is still the same as far as I see it.

The SMF website also mentions that it's a server/host issue.

The link you posted to SMF is for SMF2.1 you're using 2.0.17.

Judging by the amount of incorrect spelling on the forum over the years, spell check has never worked %) {-)

I'd welcome a spellcheck!  Usually I catch half my bod spilling before I post, but then I'm frantically trying to correct everything I missed in the quite bizare 30min limit here as it always seems clearer after posting rather than on preview.  I'm split beitween using a QWERTY and AZERTY computer (and various half-way inbetween) so I'd welcome an ENGLISH (NOT U.S.) spellcheck function while compiling a post.

If it is a long post then I just type it in a draft email / Word Document and then cut and paste..

I can't do that with a dozen pictures too. Many of my blog posts have errors that would have been corrected if the time limit was not so short.
I dont understand why it cannot be longer? it's not like there isn't enough admin to cope with anyone who might abuse it.

Ha hello, I just edited my post for two minor corrections just as you replied!  My bad -I m very bad at proof reading my own work, but lots of folk put things through me and I can pick up errors.

I don't understand the 30min timeout but it's Martins choice for some reason?

Yes don't I know it. However it is different now and surely could be trialled? what can be given can be taken away just as quickly. Perhaps a discussion to be had behind the scenes

I'll bet I know who that was between.  It's prevalent in other forums also but this forum is quite strict and heavily moderated from the start so I don't understand the restriction.

When I do a long post with many pictures using preview is a chore and by the time I've installed all the pictures I run the risk of running out of time and losing my entire post. Then half an hour later I spot a glaring error which is not only embarassing for me but crap for the reader too.

I'd also like many intrusions removing from some blogs by members who are no longer members  {-)  like what's that in the background? that then proceeds to take up 10 posts off topic  <*<

..That's par for the course Andy.  I don't do detailed or or build blogs any more but I am gulty of rasing on others sometimes if there's something of interest.  I spent many a year on other forums and hobbies doing explicit threads and it always goes awry and you have to bring it back.  You have to expect a response on any post made.

the answer to long posts is simple. do it in word first, spell check then copy and paste to forum. never had a problem doing this in the past. You dont need to use the edit function, which really is designed for short posts. 30 mins is more than enough for most posts.

I agree with what has been said about spell checking. Errors are so much more obvious when posted than when writing the post. Font size?

I also write longer posts on Open Office then paste them to the forum but then it leaves me with the problem of font size .

The above is Arial 13 this is Arial 14. The difference between them on the forum is vast but on my screen when composing or on prints the difference is very small.
