Daz......just think of each electronic posting as a written page in a book..............you [the author] has ~~~~30? minutes to read read and change or correct any spelling etc

So after that, it is the same as a written page......you nor any other person can change your written page ......others may read and being kind hearted souls ......send you a PM  >>:-( suggesting a statement or whatever you have made is incorrect

This would then allow you to go back & further revise your words....but then some other 3rd person butts in & advises you have changed your words <*< >>:-( :P & a sh*t fight starts & a Moderator :police: would be needed

It is interesting, as a number of other WEB sites for model marine & nautical matters do have the facility for individual authors to edit their postings without any time constraint..........from this,......I have not witnessed any revisions where it has caused any friction between members

If you are planning on a long posted note, why not compile and create this document in eg., MS Word or MS Outlook,  this then provides you with virtually unlimited time to review and reflect on the content,.......then when you are happy ....just copy & paste your note here in your chosen MBM page

This latter process also will provide a backup for you if you choose an unfortunate time or day when the MBM Server takes a sickie  {-)

Daz,
Consider the chaos that would ensue if you were able to go back and modify your posts.

One example, a persons reply to your post may not make any sense or appear meaningless.
Another, if you modified the post say by deleting the text, what are the replies referring to.

So you can see that the current set up by El Administrator is a good set up, just remember to preview your post before you set it in concrete and all will may be OK.

Just remember it is called Mayhem for a reason. O0 O0 {-) {-)

The reason for imposing the 30 minutes originally was that one person did in fact respond to criticism by going back and modifying his original posts which rather torpedoed the audit trail and caused a lot of irritation. Many forums do have a cut off for modifications. Read your post when you have put it up and check that it says what you intended. This also allows spelling mistakes to be corrected.

I wonder if there is a right answer here or if you just move to one that someone is keen to leave and they are looking at your current host as a possible solution. Merry go round.

This current issue seems to be some 'management' change at the current host;

No active VPS 'heartbeat' monitoring,

Days to answer Support Tickets ,

Terse / Arrogant answers to Tickets:
'My site and VPS are down / unresponsive'! - 18 Hours later "It seems to be working OK now." ( Literally! )

They've changed Cpanel, WHM passwords without notification,

Unable answer simple questions such as, ' I can't FTP to my backup folder.' - "You should be able to!"

Can you recommend another hosting company to talk to?

I am on the tech team of a forum, we use the invision hosts - https://invisioncommunity.com/buy on the super 65 plan at £45 a month, our photos are held off site on an amazon aws server very cheaply, so we keep within the data storage limit. so far (apart from a slow response christmas day (understandable)) the support tickets have been answered promptly and dealt with. if your data usage exceeds the limit for the plan, or your user average (averaged over 2 days) exceeds the limit you are automatically stepped up to the next price point, but you can easily go in and step it back down at the end of the month. the cost is roughly the same as when we were doing all the hard work, and we now have decent host support too.
at any point you can stop and they will allow you to download a backup that you can move wherever you want.
I hope that helps. I am just telling what we use and the experience we have had, so you have something to look at / compare to, the number of daily users here or data storage may make it a less viable option for this forum if it pushes it in a higher price bracket than we are in.

Martin its difficult to advise as traffic and storage requirements not only affect the price, but also the suitability of a ISP. In the past I have used 123Reg, and now have a site on UKServers, BUT mine are small sites with low traffic.

The auto daily server backups save, to a newly 'restricted disk area', filling the server up and I can't get to them!   >>:-(

I used to be able to manage this myself but now .....  >:-o

ive mentioned a few times.. UK Host 4u (unlimited bandwith & space) used them for years with no issues for many types of web space including FTP sites with large files. Other one is Smart Hosting, again unlimited bandwith & disk space.

My trade is Web Design which ive done for about 20 years, over the years ive tried many hosting sites, lots claim "unlimited bandwith & space" but read the small print & its far from it, UK host4u is 100% unlimited & ive used them now for about 8 years for numerous websites.

Just for the record

It is with regret that I/we feel something needs to be said about any tendency towards cyber bullying on the internet, 'social networks and as far as we are concerned, Model Boat Mayhem, i.e. this Forum. We are not being over dramatic, but if some members feel that they can no longer continue with builds due to constant attacks, ( inclusive of, snipes, jibes, hostile criticism, trolling, denigration, etc.  ) this IS considered 'Bullying.' and has therefore NO place on Mayhem.
( Full Definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying )

We are 'all' friends on here and we can talk maturely to each other, without forcing our own personal opinions on anyone.

not sure what's gone on recently, but end of the day, this is a HOBBY! which we all enjoy. Some members of online communities kind of reminds me of drivers, in person, they are happy, full of life people willing to help anyone with not a bad word!.. but once they get behind the wheel (keyboard!), complete opposite. Some people are...strange!! lol :(

Martin. I am sorry to say that the stuff you mentioned in your 10.25 post is not sufficient. Abuse in any shape or form must not be tolerated. We all have heated disagreements, that is the nature of the modeling game, (mine way is best) this is a superb forum with quality people giving quality advice.

BLOCK the abusers. Its been done before so put your foot down with a firm hand, only way to teach them a lesson

Sorry to hear this, but yes take action against all offenders otherwise they will blissfully continue in their ways.

Must admit I appreciate the heads up advice when inadvertently straying otherwise you think all is OK.

The other term often used is keyboard Commandos.

Bit of Mayhem is good but destructive negativity/jealousy is not.
