This is a test..
Umm interesting just typed this on my phone with delibrate  spelling mistakes and is being auto corrected and being offered a word to select instead, so it suggests to me that spell check is  working or is down to individual devices.

Have you turned Autocorrect off on your phone ?  If it is on, then the text is being corrected before upload.

Corrected? No.

If you are getting the red lines then spell check is working.  Just not Auto correction

Just tried the same using your text and also got the red lines, just right clicked and selected correct spelling, so seems ok to me.  Not sure what people want, I would prefer the red lines and options rather than auto correct as in this case " Your " became " Tour " .

Agree completely although I didn't know that right click offered corrections. (just tried it & it works fine.)

Martin,

I just checked my site and in Admin on the post settings page when I click on the question mark icon next to it, it says

Quote
Enable spell checking. You MUST have the pspell library installed on your server and your PHP configuration set up to use the pspell library. Your server DOES appear to have this set up.

As you can see the bottom line says it 'DOES' appear to have this set up.

What does it say for here?

The question is does it really matter. All the ones with spelling mistakes in I worked out quickly what was being said.
last time I looked this was a model boat forum not and english langauge forum.

Sorry but good English does matter to me. Correct grammer, spelling & punctuation are important if the message sent is to be the same as the message received. I have seem too many errors caused by poor communication.

Grammer?!  :}

I do agree that good English makes for much nicer reading but there are a couple of other potential issues too. One is that when checking your text you see what you intended to write rather than what is actually there and the other is that advancing age brings eyesight problems so you also miss things because of that. I partially lost the sight in one eye last Christmas and I find that when typing I now really have to concentrate to ensure that I am getting it right, and I still find I have made typos. It's frustrating. It doesn't help when trying to paint fine detail on models either!

Judging by the amount of incorrect spelling on the forum over the years, spell check has never worked %) {-)

Peter.

I'm a terrible speller  ( horror flashback to primary school! ) <:(    but if I spot an incorrect spelling, it must be bad!   {-)

If it is a long post then I just type it in a draft email / Word Document and then cut and paste..

Yes, good idea.... and it saves it for you too!

Martin, it is working.

Yes I agree with TheLongBuild, Martin, the spell checker is working now.

Going back to what the others are saying about time out on posts, it's worth noting that there is a mod that can be installed that's for creating 'Drafts' of posts, which means you can save your post in draft before you post it, this will give you time to edit and add photos etc.

Quote
Allow member groups to save new topics, replies, and polls as drafts by giving them the "Can save topics and replies as drafts" permission.  Users with this permission can also view a list of their drafts in their Profile as well as on the Post page.  As an administrator, you can view any user's drafts via their Profile

It's here if you want it Martin.

I've just tested it on a test site and it installs with no errors.

Just saying

Seems to be a lot of work and hassle for something which is not a great issue really.  The system highlights if a word is wrong, just right click on the word, select the correct word and move on.   %% %%

It's your browser that's doing that not the spell check function of the site. This means that somewhere there is an issue with the forum software or server, which needs to be resolved as it could be a security issue.

My software (Safari) seems to do three different things withe miss spelt words or incorrect grammar ,  1) Alter the word with no advice,  2) Underline the word in red  3). Highlight the word in blue with the correct spelling in click box below.     I assume that this is because my puter must have access to several spell checkers hidden around and it depends which one gets in first.

Option 1 is the nuisance because it means you have to carefully proof read before or after posting to make sure it has not made nonsense of your post.

Well my mate Tom got into trouble because of the spell checker. The guy next door came back from a 2 week business trip and first thing he did was come round and thump him. Seems Tom had sent an email thanking him   as he had been using his wife while he was was away. :o

Smelling peckers only check that a worm was smelled rite.  If the spoiling mistake results in a valid word, it gets through.
