TYNE LIFEBOAT
« on: July 05, 2007, 01:54:27 pm »

Just a couple of pic's from my first attempt at scratch building well semi scratch

A bit of advice if like me you only have a small shed . get rid of any spiders before you apply paint
gave a quick coat on the deck last night, whent back to look a bit later the fumes had killed one
of the buggers it only fell onto my deck. don't you love the wild life.

windows / transfers from speedline models Fantastic kits on there own.

As I say its my first time, fixing the deck to the hull and making the cabins was enough first time
round,  it has working lights, radar, well were working last night ??

Hiya, the model looks fine, I would like to build one myself one day.  I'm not sure if you know but Waverley Models do Tyne Class fittings.

Hiya,
they are not on the website but you will find them in his catalogue, and they are 1:12, you  may already have what you need, but his catalogue is still worth a look. I collect lifeboat postcards and I see that your boat is the 47-040 Shoreham lifeboat.

OK Keith  will send for a catalogue. always worth it for the extras and replacements .

yep she is the Shoreham lifeboat. spend my childhood fishing from the harbour arms. watching
and hoping they would launch the lifeboat.  she was the last Tyne to be built, and will be afloat for a year or more. while they build a new boat house ,for the new boat a Tamar.
all this starts in November I'm told . when me numbers come up this week putting in a bid for her
that should please the wife. should look good on a trailer in the front garden .

Hello Bob , as for the motors I will have to check to be sure but they are from caldercraft ???  supplied my westbourne models
along with esc and other bits I will get a list of whats in her may help you should it not all suite, as yet to test on the water

I believe the two batts im using 12v jel cell  will be to heavy but looking for duration not speed just a little lift from the bows would be nice. but I'm learning as i go . I will add a couple more pic's .

have you any pics would be nice to see them, as not to many Tynes about.

Thanks for the reply.......I dont have any photos of my Tyne as yet but will send some on when I have some....

It has been a hard slog as I am not a great scartchbuilder. I have aquired the windows and the fittings from Speedling (Ithink) and Model Slipway and these will help alot.

I have some wonderfull photos of a Tyne built by a British modeller, Terry Edwards, he sent me. I can scan them when I have time and forward some of them. His moedl is a beauty. He has done a wonderful job on it.

Thanks for the info on the motors....

Cheers
Bob

Great photos....you have done a brilliant job....I am wondering if your stanchions are scratchbuilt or commercial fitings. They are so unique to the Tyne where they meet the deck. I have puzzled over this for some time.

The model boat world over here in Rupert's Land is very smal indeed. We have a small club of about 10 members but we have built a very nice assortment of subjects. We are not catered for very well by the hobby trade here other than for the standard paint, glue etc. The only model boat stuff we see in the shops are the fast electric boats and the junk from Dumas stateside.  >:(

The electronics of your boat are very well known here.....Electronize Design and Hunter Systems do a very fast mail order business for us here whenever we need it. As do most of the British model boat traders. Mail order keeps us going here.  :)

I have been over to the UK a number of times for model boating events, 1996 Greenwich show, 1998 and 2001 at Beale Park.

You lads are so lucky to be well served by your traders and you must have a show every weekend you could attend if so desired!

Your lifeboat looks great and happy sailing at your RNLI charity event.  O0

I am now inspired to pull it out and dust it off....my lifeboat that is!  ;D

Nice to hear from you again Bob, Glad that the suppliers over here can help you, yes we do have a lot of shows we are probably better off than we realise,  the Stanchions are commercial ,  by  http://www.modelslipway.com/

As you say the Tyne has a rather awkward set up most others have a kick board to attach them to,  My ham fisted way was
to purchase double what I required and cut the triangle section of and glue it to the one being used on the boat, which gave
me the thickness to attach to the feet of each Stanchion, which I made from Brass tube of the shape you see not quite the correct
shape as square but I'm OK with that.
the left overs from my butchery were used to make the extra supports required on some of the others with a small piece of tubing to help with the fixing. each one of the main Stanchions i drilled and put a small pin through. to hold the support and again through
the support feet and into the deck, the Stanchions are soft metal so when knock them they should bend or rip bits of my deck off  :embarrassed:

so you have been to Beale Park, I have been this year and will go again in a few weeks  as its about 30 Min's from me.
my next show will be Warwick love that one in November. if I'm good i get to take a wish list for Christmas prezza's

Do you have a web site like Mayhem, I think its Fantastic.  well nice to chat if I can help please shout but remember I'm no expert
but I know a website were they live. O0

I also used Model Slipway intermediate stanchions but made all the mountings from aluminium angle.
However I made all the strut stanchions from scratch to give plenty of rigidity to the rails as I tend to have a habit of catching them when working on the boat. 8)
